Have a read around the forum, but it won't be cheap.

You'll need uprated engine internals, cams, fueling and turbo on top of the usual stage 1 mods, plus a clutch if you want to use the power.

What is the car used for?

Think carefully before speccing your car, if you want 500bhp for pub figures I would suggest against it.

400 - 430 will make a very good fast road carf and keep alot mroe reliability.

+1 .....does depend on your needs I'd say. If you want a trackday beast then absolutely yup go for it - and youngsyr gives the right advice!! 400'ish is great for a sweet road car though IMO (and achievable with a 'reasonable' budget) :smthumbup

From what I've read you wouldn't necessarily need the ecu, lash adjusters or adjustable pulleys, but you would need a double pump fuel set up on top of that little lot.

Whether uprated transmission and diffs are needed is anyone's guess.

It can be done with injectors, fuel pump, air filter, evo red turbo, exhaust, reflashed ecu if you want to do it on the cheap.

JohnD done it!

Quite right however most folk going for 500+ use a standalone ECU.
Adjustable pulleys would allow you to make the most of the cams and when the engine is in bits, if spending all that cash its probably worth while sticking new lashers in. All IMO of course.

Baz, a lot on there you need but you don't need...

clutch (altho recommended)
intercooler (based on S205 doing 490-500hp on standard)
Lash adjusters
Manifold
MR head gasket is fine (MG Auto's have used them to 2.4b and over 600hp)

It isn't cheap but also not as expensive as its made out.

OK then, forget the manifold and intercooler.

The std clutch won't last long on a 500bhp car. Would an engine builder re-use the standard headgasket on a 500bhp engine build?

Like most things, you can do it a cheap way or you can do it properly. There are loads of corners you could cut for 500bhp.

Simple answer is sell the car and buy one that someone has spent a fortune on.

Peeps keep building beasts, and then selling them because they have completed their project.

Huge savings are to be found this way.

It'd be interesting to see how much power can be pulled out of the IX turbo by running it on meths, I bet it wouldn't be far from 500 bhp. :naughty:
