I've recently purchased an evo VI and 10 minutes after I paid the guy I found an oil leak. Further investigation has revealed a hairline crack in the sump. I would just like a little advice on how best to proceed.

Can they be repaired? or is a new sump my only option? If I need to replace it, does anyone have one lying around (long shot I know :) ) that they could sell me. If I need to buy a new one, where's the best/cheapest place to get it?

Lastly, I intend speaking to the relevant authorities but does anyone have a feel for whether or not I have any rights to take this up legally with the guy who shafted me with the car in the first place, I here that even private sales are covered now?

Thanks in advance

i had a similar problem when i bought my calibra, it was f*cked basically but it was a private sale, and the twát had written sold as seen on the receipt, so i didnt have a leg to stand on - went to trading standards, cab and all that malarky, they said even if i was to go down the road of taking him to court for the costs, and i won, all that would happen would be at best a ccj against him, even then its not likely that he would bother paying! so find out what you can - end of the day the sale of goods act still covers private sales i think, but your best of speaking to the citizens advice bureau... they would be able to offer the best advice - shame really, hope this wont tarnish your evo ownership :)
