In my village newsletter, saw a mention of a 'community speedwatch program' coming into force. so i did a bit of research and found this...

Clicksie pay particular attention to step 5. For 'working group' read 'busybody old duffers'

So where will this end?? of course i dont condone speeding through villages, and neither do i do it, but whats going to stop them expanding this so that Arthur and Mavis, with nothing better to do all day, decide to take a trip to the local 'good stretch of b-road' and setting up with their picnic table, notebook and speed camera?

What with the plastic 'CSO' pigs, traffic wardens being given more power and now this.... big brother really will be on EVERY street corner :blah:

But the most that can happen if one of the aforesaid busybodies clocks your plate (or writes somebody elses plate down wrong, or decides with a car like that you must be speeding etc etc) is a 'warning' letter from your local constabulary.

And whats to stop you from:

1) Getting out of the car.
2) Taking the camera.
3) Kicking the f*ck out of them.
4) Drive off.

The previous comment is in part jest maybe, but if the police/government want to give 'old biddies' the job of setting up speed traps then they are putting them at great risk as some people wouldn't think twice about doing the above.

This country & and it's administrative bodies are totally obsessed with solving symptoms rather than problems....papering over the cracks!

Giving old folk speed cameras is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard, why don't they tool them up and send them around the city streets instead? That way they could tackle some proper crime like burglary, mugging and rape.

There's millions of old folk out there, you could just about have one on every street corner. They could be called the "Villager-Vigilantes".

(Hopefully nobody from the government ever frequents this forum or we may well see this adopted as a government crime-fighting initiative in the near future)

Or seeing as how old folk are always moaning about pensions and heating why not pile half the OAPs into furnaces to heat the homes of the remaining ones? Not only would it solve the heating and pension issue, it would free up homes for first-time buyers. Not to mention ridding the roads of those 40 mpg in an NSL idiots.
