Chaps,

I'd be keen to hear what everyones views are on the new WRC Tech facility that we used today for the MLR dyno day/weekend ?

What was the overall impression of the workshop / equipment / location / set up ?

(I appreciate that some areas need minor finishing off, but its 90% there)

+ Has anyone got any photo's of it for this thread ? (just so others can see what we are talking about)

I thought it was very good :) Nice being in the Silverstone compound as well, must cost a bit rent wise

Thought the power figures were down slightly from G-force last year (or was that my imagination  ) But the figures add up when you look at Durans car etc.

All looked good though :)

TBH Leonard I thought the figs were spot on.

A standard VI did 210 bhp ATW

A standard VIII 260 did 198 bhp ATW

These figs are absolutely on the ball.

Funnily enough, if you divide both those figs by 0.76 - check out the number you get ? ;) ......but then we dont talk about transmission losses on here anymore :D

WRC Facility

Cheers Steve for another very well organised day :D (ever thought about organising TOTB :D )

I thought the facility was good, easy to find and Chris was friendly and professional as usual. I noticed some decent laser allignment gear hanging on the wall also...

I thought the RR was on a par with G-Force; the figures seem about right :D

Comparing Simon Norris's dyno results with the achieved atw figures would seem to suggest that 24% transmission loss is about right :D

Anyway, cheers for another top day :coolsm:

Simon, thanks for coming all the way down, good to see you.

The cooling system / fan set up at WRC Tech is far better than G-Force's (even though G-Force's was good anyway!) - that was good to see.

It was very interesting to see a few cars that have been bench dyno'ed at Simon Norris' then producing ATW figs that showed somewhere between 22-26% trans losses ..... this will surely open up yet another trans loss debate.

A standard VI ran 210bhp ATW today

A standard VIII 260 ran 198bhp ATW today

Divide both of the above by 0.76 and what do you get ? weird eh ?

Yes, the cooling system did seem pretty good. I think the weather helped :D

At the end of the day, the transmission losses are up for debate, but if everyone is using 24%ish across the board that's good enough for me :) It's only a bit of fun anyway

Steve,

Another job well done in the organisation of another MLR Dyno Day.

The WRC Tech facility is awesome considering 2 months ago it was a totally empty building. Chris said they were there until 01:00hrs last night painting, and in again at 06:00hrs to do some final prep work for today

As Rich said, those car lifts are  Bet those weren't cheap....

Unfortunately Chris has managed to persuade me, to have some more work done to the motor, so I guess I'll be back up there soon :D

Oh yeh, last but not least, the catering arrangement was spot on, just what we needed today to keep us warm :)

Thanks for your kind words :)

The catering van will be there again tomorrow - he took thousands today!!

I must say though, it would of been a bit better if he had had a great big slab of donna meat turning on a skewer and some chilli sauce though! :D

There is a bog on premises, but it wasnt finished off (ie not pucka looking enough for punters) - will be sorted next time.....but there is a great big toilet block across the way that services Silverstone on race days.

Yes your probably right, perhaps I still cant believe Bex rolling road results still from G-Force last year ;) 274.8bhp and 278.7ft/lbs @ 3750 RPM on Ralliart ECU 1.4 bar :D I always expect cars that have had big money spent on them to be a lot faster. (which I am sure they probably are on the road)

Mosi, my 2p's worth...

THE FACILITY - DYNO & OPERATION
Good stuff! It's a Dyno Dynamics, as at G-force, but I'm led to believe it has more up-to-date software. From the figures seen for different specs of cars, I'd say the ATW figures are bloody spot on! I won't go into ATW -> FW figure conversions here, but what counts (ie ATW figures) seem bang on. A good thing to note is that dyno runs only take a few seconds, so stress on the cars is minimal in comparison to other dynos I have seen. In all, an EXCELLENT dyno facility.

THE FACILITY - DYNO COOLING
I also noted that Chris is using centrifugal fans for cooling. Top move! IMHO that's the only type of fan that can give the air speeds you need to simulate good cooling.

THE FACILITY - ALIGNMENT GEAR
I spotted the latest Pro Align gear in the workshop. IMHO, this is the best stuff around, and although their recommended data specs for each model of car are not totally up-to-date for all cars, if you know what you're doing with alignment, this is the gear to have.

THE FACILITY - RAMPS/LIFTS
I didn't take too good a look, but I did get a bit alarmed when I initially thought the the ramp was literally a flat platform that would lift by pushing against the floor of the car. I didn't take a closer look, but no doubt this had adjustable "jacks" that actually did the supporting.

THE ORGANISATION
What can I say? Mosi, if you ever get bored of your employment agency, maybe you have another vocation ready as a Dyno Day Meister. Another well organised day, and one where the cars were steadily tested and documented. You've got a knack for organising these days, mate! ;)

MAN OF THE DAY
This HAS to go to Mark Shead! His cars consistently performed excellently on the day, and so far, he has produced what I would call my ultimate Evo Spec. Sorry, forget the owner's name, but it was the powerful Red Evo7 with the beautiful power delivery that really rocked my boat. The owner is certainly going to be smiling in this car!

RUNNER UP
Evo400's turbo seemed to be working beautifully on DaveGs car, essentially proving Evo400's point about being able to achieve 400bhp for a fraction of the cost of the FQ400.

Mosi, I left in a hurry, mate, and didn't get a chance to say "bye" to you or to Chris. Can you please tell him that I'll be calling him on Monday to discuss dyno time prices for my own mapping purposes? And I'll be calling you on Monday too, to get you looking for another IT contract for me! :D

You look at the figs the TME's did today. TME's in relatively standard trim always produce good figs.

I was talking this through with DaveG today, and he is sure that TME's came out the factory with some unofficial tweaks.

No worries Dino, good to see you again mate :)

I'll let Chris know you'll be in, and give me a shout anytime on the other thing.

Cheers

I thought the whole set up woz very impressive and wouldn't have any reservations about taking my car there for upgrades etc. In fact seeing WRC in the flesh has convinced me to go for it and spend some money!

Mine made 200.8ATW at G-Force last Sept compared to todays 192.5ATW but i'm sure others had ups and downs from previous runs :)

Different days, different conditions.

That said, I did hear on occasion that others thought the G-Force dyno to read a tad higher than WRC Techs (only by a couple of bhp mind).

However, another 260 in the same trim as yours did a 198.8 bhp ATW run - which is dead on the power really.

Maybe you havent been running yours in properly (ie thrashing it to really loosen it up etc)

now that might be the real reason mine was 11bhp more than James' :D

It was a cracking day....some friendly people about...some not so, and some Burberry  . The premises was ideal, and the guys working there seemed to know what they were doing.

RC's car blew the socks off me.

funny u say that as thats exactly wot i woz thinking on the drive home! Not having had a real performance car before i've been taking it real easy with it and altho its got 5500 miles on the clock i've not really given it too much abuse. Been too concerned about taking care of it, i wont from now on :)
