I've resigned myself to getting syncro on 1st and 2nd fixed but want to know what a reasonable price for getting this work done might be.

I appreciate that labour is the biggest cost here but roughly what should the parts run to alone?
Is labour usually costed for the job or per hour?
What might be good figures either way?
Anyone have any recommendations where to get the work carried out? (North/Scotland pref.)

Any help appreciated.

Gordon,

Sorry forgot to get back to you:(. Unfortunately it's very hard to say what a reasonable price would be due to the car being rare, I'd imagine that anyone taking on the job would charge by the hour due to this. When I got my first box rebuilt it cost me £180 labour but that was a friend price, after that blew up I decided to get my own hands dirty. Does Bill Greer not do work on the early Evo's?.
Anyway if you have any hassle finding the syncros I could always dive into the GSRed Gearbox parts-bin;). I think I have 2 complete gearsets in the garage.

Hmm, could try Bill again but to be honest I got fed up chasing him to get anything done - he's too busy and I live just too far away to drop round and bug him to get stuff done.

I've another chap who can get the work done and his rates are generally OK but I don't know about 'box work. If I had a garage, time and alternative transport (for the missus, not me) I'd be willing to do it myself.

I know this is probably going to cost and amp;gt;£500 and I'm going to be without the car for a week or so anyway, just trying to minimise the impact and make sure I'm not going to get ripped off!

Do you know much about what might be involved?

To remove, strip, replace all the bearings, rebuild, set the preload and refit the gearbox on an E6 costs between £800 to £1100 depending where you go. I reckon replacing the synchos will be about the same although up north the labour may be cheaper.
If you know what needs doing then ask for a quote.
