I remember from an older thread that you guys there said that the future of 98RON petrol was in danger because there were not many people buying it, hence 98RON petrol gets stocked over long periods of time at your petrol stations, which then lead to octan degredation. Did I understand the issue correctly?

If what I have said was right, why does it spoil / degrade over time? Thanks!

I guess the reason it spoils over a period of time is because it is higher octane rating ( I believe it is now 97, they had been passing it off as 98
for a long time ).
The higher octane petroleum components are more volatile and thus evaporate more readily thus reducing the average octane rating over time.

I stand to be corrected by a petro-chemical engineer.
