I joined just now from Istanbul. I will be purchasing an EVO VI Makinnen Edition within a month. The cars are imported by Mitsubishi Turkey from Ralliart Japan. Unleaded fuel in Turkey is at best 95 RON. What are the potential problems I will run into and is there a solution that you can suggest? What do you think about ECU remapping to 95 RON by Power Engineering? Thanks for the answers.

Don't Mitsubishi Turkey have the cars adjusted for the fuel there ? U could check that.
I am having my car re-mapped by Power engineering on Monday (11th) I will post information with the results and driving impressions. The process includes much rolling road time as each car is set up individually , it is not just an ECU swap.
I am told it will take around 6 hours !!
So I would think it wud not be possible to have this done in Turkey.
By the way , having visited Istanbul on many occasions and seen the terrible standard of driving and condition of many roads , I am hugely impressed with yr courage in buying an Evo 6 !!

You are right! The roads are terrible. At least most of them. Ideal to drive a ready to go rally car though. Power Station offered to fly to Turkey to do the remapping and test the car afterwards!

I am planning on driving to Turkey in my 6 next year to Izmir and I am also concerned about super availability. Perhaps loads of octane booster is the way to go??

Are octane boosters safe to use? How do you calculate how much to add?There are octane boosters (ie. Wynns) that you can buy from petrol stations in Turkey. Fuel in the rural areas is said to be very bad. Always buy from cities. Phone me when you come here. 212.2233264

Just my 2 penneth:
Due to the fuel situation here in the UK I contacted Ralliart yesterday regarding octane boosters, in case the only fuel I could get was 95RON.
I spoke with Toney Cox, who is their technical director, and he stated that at no time should I use ANY octane booster in my car, I would be better off using 95RON fuel (minimum amount) and driving VERY carefully, i.e. no more than 0.5-1.0bar boost, until I could find Super again. He stated that octane boosters are distinctly BAD for my car.
Now I don't know if this applies to standard Evos, as my car is an RS450, but I would think it would be wise for you to check, I'd certainly hate to think of people ruining their lovely Evo engines using this stuff http://www.ltregister.force9.co.uk/graphics/TooHappy.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| middle >

Someone asked the question at the beginning What happens if I don't use Super - Answer - Detonation, where the fuel ignites at the wrong time. I did it to my Escort Cosworth. As you pile on the boost and load the fuel has to do it's job, if there is not enough or a wrong mixture or bad fuel then it detonates, overheating the bores and my result was one melted spark plug and two pistons where the rings welded themselves into their groves round the piston, they then slapped around in the bores. This was a £3000 mistake on my part and a lesson learnt, it only took 2 or 3 seconds of what felt to me like misfire to screw the engine ! - I learnt that if you are going to take the car to the max, give it the best fuel to do so !

Octane booster bad?
That sounds like ****** but you say its from the technical director. Does he KNOW that these cars are mapped to run on 100ron as standard?
