Brothers,

Having a few problems with my new 400.

Firstly had to have engine ecu re-mapped as revs died on pull away. Two weeks later i now have it back and whilst it is greatly improved, i cannot imagine this car doing 0-60 in 3.5. Has anyone managed it. When first is engaged there is still a distinct lack of power and it takes time to get the power up. It seems almost impossible to do a fast smooth sprint. Once the car is rolling it is fantastic, but I couldnt even imagine taking on my mums skoda as it stands.

Sound Familiar to anyone.

Not being funny but have you driven high powered turbo cars before, because what you are describing is turbo lag.
This happens with all Evos unless like Leonard says you give them plenty of revs and come off the clutch rather sharpish.

You only get 0-60 in 3.5 if you dial in 7000rpm and side step the clutch. If you want to do it again then you will have to change the clutch and gearbox ;)
Driveshafts actually, both of them, and the diff too - all on a boat from Japan so get ready to wait a good few weeks.

Nah well actually when you do it right the launch is truly awesome. I can't do the 0-60 because my clutch won't let me get second gear, but if you do the right launch in first gear then all 4 tyres will smoke up and the car will slide down the road with such ludicrous force your head will hurt :)

7k is too much - try playing between 5 and 6. 5 and you tend to slide down into turbo lag, above 6 and you're spinning too much and wasting time!

Who did you remap?

not wanting to get embroiled in a lengthy debate, but there are only 2 ways to set of with a paddle clutch

option 1 steady away like your driving your mums car

you dont side step the clutch who ever does this has no mecanical sympothy and will break things as stated

the 0 -60 should be done bye pulling up the hand brake keeping h thum on the button then build up the revs till just over 5 grrand with the odd blip to spool up the turbo bring the clutch up to biteing point and load the drive train up then its a case of full throttle drop the clutch as quick as poss (not side step) and get the hand brake down and be ready to hit 2nd gear in 2 secs aprox,

this is only my humble opinion :D

You're totally right!

Just that since people on this forum have been driving these cars for years - the above paragraph has been kindly abbreviated for us by leonard to "sidestepping the clutch"

I'm sure no one actually nails the right pedal and drops the left... though that's quite fun cos you can get the car to sit still spinning all 4 wheels as I discovered my first time at the pod!

I thought I had better pipe up at this point and say my comments were made with tongue firmly in cheek! Please do not dial in 7k and side step the clutch.............oh you have already done it, sorry

No major probs with mine ,had two warped disc on front after track day ,but these were changed instantly under warranty.
Done 0-100 in 9.8secs,but i do weigh in at just over 17 stone maybe if i lose weight i could do a 9.1 ,would probably be to freil at 3 stone to drive it
Having a new ecu and remap 21 st june see what we can get out of her.
Will let u know

:)

Sidestepping is not always the fastest 0-60 the fastest recorded in the 400 is slightly lower than 3.5 and that wasnt done by sidestepping

im glad we all seem to agree for once,
however i dont think you should drag race these cars too much as the drive train just cant take it, ihave heard of numerous problems with drive trains being damaged etc,

as for the pod if you go there on a preped track you will not spin all 4 wheels at all, run what youve brung maybe but this is not the right approach for a quick 1/4 mile or being able to drive home after wards,

i would think a sub 3.5 sec 0-60 is quite possible ;)

Why are you getting another ECU? Is that for service time?

So you can't change the map yourself.
yep...thanx Aidy ....good point :)
...I realise that .....particularly as most owners/users wouldn't have the facilities to do it themselves anyway

was really in context to the previous statement of 'swapping out the ECU'
....which I found a bit puzzling

So no other tuner can change the map, or steal the one on it.

Mitsi provide a warranty on the car, they have an extremely safe map on there, if they left it unlocked people would have it remapped to take better advantage of the FQ400's abilities, Mitsi may or may not end up paying out for more warranty work due to the car producing more power.
