Folding mirror repair

Tried to repair the folding mirror mechanism which seems stuck on my offside mirror.

So I was unable to find a guide with photo's that worked, I will be doing a strip down guide when photobucket is feeling more friendly.

I cleaned all moving parts and checked motor/gears were free and not damaged. Individually they seem fine but it still seems to bind up when the vertical shaft with the 2 gears engages, it seems to jam against the plastic housing as pressure is applied.

I have a suspicion that if I take a bit of a coil off the spring that puts pressure on the joint between the base and the mirror, essentially the part it pivots on, it will move more freely and the gears might not bind up.

I think it may be a relatively cheap fix for something that doesn't seem repairable... my first impression is this spring is putting far too much tension on that joint I can't see why it needs to be so strong.

As you can see everything was stripped and cleaned, removed all the old crappy grease

And rebuilt with some of the white water resistant grease. I noticed the bit that pivots where the spring is was very tight so when you flip it over I used lots of grease and with everything stripped I manually moved it back and forth to work the grease in. once built back up though it was obvious there is an issue with the gears binding.

Did you manage to get your mirror working as i'm in the same boat with mine as well.
I found it easier to get a replacement mirror mechanism from the scrappy, then just swapped the shells over.

Still working on it, I want to find a solution without needing to throw away my mirror, be good to find a fix. The gear mechanism is relatively simple but being cased in plastic I recon is it's downfall!
Maybe speak with Stu8, as he was looking into the same!

Mine is goosed too (near side) so doesn't hold in the out position very well. Seems quite common!

Hi,

Am from india. I got same mirror to be installed in lancer, but i had one problem, the motor was not working. so i removed the casings and made the motor to work freely. and i greased the gears, all good and no wornout. but if i checked in bench. only 30% is working open /close. the motor stops it seems I think the relay in the mirror got weakened? What you say

also, Does this unit run directly without seperate power folding unit? my mirror has the same in picture as you had. please . looking help:wallbang:

Hello dear
How much is the volt on the motori have another issue
No point starting a new thread. Just dismantled n/s mirror from my VI.

Looks like the plastic gear on the worm screw is worn, you can see it at the top. Symptoms were clicking when trying to fold/unfold mirror.

Would anyone know of a source of replacement gears, or even if a 3d printed one would be strong enough?

Anyone know where replacement motors can be got for these also??
I spent quite a bit of time and a few quid trying the same thing with the evo X mirrors, common failure was the actual motor, but couldnt find anywhere to get a suitable replacement. I found the originals, special order for :Mitsi: The same could be bought separately, but min order of something like 10,000. Tried a few other 12v motors that looked identical, but different specs, non worked sufficiently well....Gave up
For the gear - would it be possible to 3D print?
1st attempt. My printer is only a basic one though (Ender 3 Pro), so don't know if it will print precise enough.

If not then try to get the ear of a friendly dealer and get them to check out the part number for mirror repair kit. I bought one about 8 years ago and took about 20 mins to fit. Comes with new motor mechanism in a bolt-in "chassis".
