Finally Started My Uk TME Underbody Restoration.

After viewing several impressive restoration projects on the MLR recently Ive finally plucked up the courage to start mine !

The plan being a complete underbody restoration, down to bare metal, rustbullet, paint (red, black and white) various parts to be blasted and powder coated, new bolts, bushes and other new bits as needed !!

Managed to bag myself a Bradbury 4 post lift from my mechanic friend who was upgrading to scissor lifts. Should make the whole job easier ! Had to buy and fit an inverter to convert to 3phase but with a lot of help from Sean a fellow Red Mak owner this was soon sorted !

Progress is going to be steady due to work and family commitments , and the fact I want it damn near perfect !

I will post the updates as and when they happen , a few photos below show this afternoons progress. A few parts removed and half a tank of super unleaded drained !

To be honest I was really worried about what may lay beneath - considering its a uk car ! Yes there are areas of surface rust underneath the underseal but the floor pan and sills look pretty decent considering . Hopefully will be getting down to some serious underseal and rust removal soon :smthumbup

Been getting some serious grief about the time the Mak has been sat on the ramp in my Dads garage , so to prevent a proper father / son fall out I've got to get It moved 200 meters down the road asap . Spent yesterday working on fitting the rear suspension and hubs. Really good to see some progress being made . Had some mixed opinions about my colour scheme but hey ho , it's my car I'll do as I like !!

Brand new arms being prepped ready for paint (didn't like the bare alloy finish) ...

Centres of discs have a tidy up ...

New rear shocks and components with powder coated springs

All loosely bolted together with brand new nuts and bolts , as still need to pop in driveshafts ( all painted just need building back up) a few old bolts temporarily used on the knuckles as new ones arrive tomorrow.

Front sub frame going on soon then down the road she goes !!

I managed to carefully peel it off , clean it with de greaser which also removed the remaining stickiness from the back , then re applied using a spray adhesive , :smthumbup

Haven't been on here for ages, simply stunning Chris, it'll be one of, if not the best out there pal. I'll keep popping on now and then so see the progress.

Still the best looking Evo made is a Red Mak.

Fab thread - just read it right from the start - very interesting discussion at the start about prices of TME's :)

Little bit late with the weekly update , but the car is still on the ramp ! Seems the sight of the recent good progress has bought me a little more time in my borrowed garage space

Anyway took the opportunity of a few hours this weekend to fit the refurbished AYC pump and pipe work .

Pump and all new nuts, bolts , bushes , pipe work and dust cover....

Think it goes somewhere near here !!

Part 1

Part 2

Job done !

Hoping to fit the fuel and brake lines , and hopefully the fuel tank next weekend !

Well after just over 2 years the Mak has left its temporary accommodation and made the short journey home !!

With no diff oil in the rear diff we decided against pushing it 300 meters !

Looking rather dusty ...

Gave the engine bay a polish up then started to fit either cleaned , refurbished or new parts ....

Really enjoying this part of the restoration now , it's had its ups and downs along the way but this is the most rewarding part
