I'll have to have a look at the rust bullet range, what products will you be using or is it just "rust bullet" and that's the only one ?
Once it's painted red will you just leave it as paint ?
Not sure on the Op's plans but I'll give you the way I did mine. Rust bullet x 3 coats, primer sufacer, seam sealed, top coat. There's also flatting down stages in between those aswell. Hope that helps. :smthumbup

Makes it all worth while hearing compliments like that so thankyou. :) it's not been easy doing it on the floor in such a tight space but if your determined to do it then you will.

Best advice I can give is take your time. Don't Rush as you won't be happy and you'll end up doing it again.

To be honest I'd just stick with what I did but it's entirely up to you.

All the best with your build. I'll be keeping a watchful eye. :) :smthumbup

Unfortunately not a lot been happening on the Evo front for the past month, work has been silly busy , It hasn't stopped me ordering new parts though :smthumbup

I made the decision a few weeks that if im in for a penny I might as well go in for a pound .... decision made the engines coming out !! Lets go for the full engine bay refurb as well .

Managed to have the best part of today on it and progress has been made. I cant help but think im slowly making the worlds biggest jigsaw puzzle:handsup:

Did you find much rust hidden underneath ? Or just what's pictured above
The engine bay isn't too bad but it had started as shown in the photos above , also getting a little scabby on the front cross member . I've not found anything so far that's to troubling . I've seen a lot worse !!

The chassis apart from the one problem are (rear chassis leg) I've been quite pleased with , mainly surface rust .

Things like fuel filler neck and brake backing plates are scrap !

Loads of components need blasting and powder coating , Im not rushing or cutting corners I want it perfect . It's not gonna be quick , it's not gonna be easy , but it will be bloody expensive  ( don't tell the wife ) :smthumbup

I can higly recommend Brantho Korrux 3-1, i personally think this is the best available product on the market that you can apply yourself.

This is a rust converter/primer/finishing layer with color all in one, with many RAL colors to choose from.

The biggest benefit of this, that it is not prone to cracking like other paints when it gets some age to it :smthumbup

I restored a 2cv with this stuff (which are notorious for rusting) and even after 6 years sitting outside, it's still like new,

just google it you won't find any bad review.

As for cleaning rusty suspension parts and bolts, instead of sand blasting get yourself Deox-C from bilt hamber, that's absolutly magic in stripping rust from crispy rusty parts without any effort.

this is what a part looks like that has been in a deox-c solution for 24 hours, and just rinsed off with water so no scrubbing with metal brush is needed

before

after :

I'm also in the process of doing a complete underbody restoration and i researched many weeks/months before choosing products.

this is mine after 1 hour of angle grinding with a wirebrush
