Finally Started My Uk TME Underbody Restoration.

After viewing several impressive restoration projects on the MLR recently Ive finally plucked up the courage to start mine !

The plan being a complete underbody restoration, down to bare metal, rustbullet, paint (red, black and white) various parts to be blasted and powder coated, new bolts, bushes and other new bits as needed !!

Managed to bag myself a Bradbury 4 post lift from my mechanic friend who was upgrading to scissor lifts. Should make the whole job easier ! Had to buy and fit an inverter to convert to 3phase but with a lot of help from Sean a fellow Red Mak owner this was soon sorted !

Progress is going to be steady due to work and family commitments , and the fact I want it damn near perfect !

I will post the updates as and when they happen , a few photos below show this afternoons progress. A few parts removed and half a tank of super unleaded drained !

To be honest I was really worried about what may lay beneath - considering its a uk car ! Yes there are areas of surface rust underneath the underseal but the floor pan and sills look pretty decent considering . Hopefully will be getting down to some serious underseal and rust removal soon :smthumbup

It's been steady progress ..... but steady progress is better than no progress at all !!

It's getting to the stage where I'm thinking do I really want to put this back in the car ? Or put it in a glass cabinet and look at it ??

A few photos of how the engine is coming along ....

Lots more to do ... but I think we are getting there. Another trip down to see Dave Cee coming soon to collect some parts that he's currently working some magic on .... after someone else completely and utterly messed up ! More on that another time !

Cam wheels are zinc plated then passivated with olive drab.

olive drab is the the choice of Mr Mita... due to his fetish of this coating i am almost out of it.

Bad news is I can't get anymore of it. So I'm hoping he ain't got too many more bits he wants doing

Big job of olive plating just came in. It was already on its way before I sent out the group message that I was stopping the plating etc.

Customer said I could send it back, but it's here now so i will do it and he's a good lad etc.

I will save a bit for you :naughty:

Good to hear Dave ... it looked pretty crap the last time I see it ! Perhaps the worse powder coating you've ever seen ??

I couldn't blast it off even at 100 Psi it just kept moving it around. Powder coat was under cured so i had to get it all chemically dipped to get it all off

Little bit more progress on the engine .... turbo lump back on , and some auxiliaries too. Some of these parts were refurbished over 2 years ago and still look fantastic. Won't be long until
It's back in the car !

A few photos from today ...

Another little update on the engine progress today. Not much left to be bolted on now. Just waiting on a few missing bolts that thankfully Ross Sport have in stock.

Gearbox and front diff casings dropped off today to keep the lads busy until we can get the car to them ... hopefully in a couple of weeks after a trip to see Dave Cee to collect the rear sub frame that badly needed his attention.
