After viewing several impressive restoration projects on the MLR recently Ive finally plucked up the courage to start mine !

The plan being a complete underbody restoration, down to bare metal, rustbullet, paint (red, black and white) various parts to be blasted and powder coated, new bolts, bushes and other new bits as needed !!

Managed to bag myself a Bradbury 4 post lift from my mechanic friend who was upgrading to scissor lifts. Should make the whole job easier ! Had to buy and fit an inverter to convert to 3phase but with a lot of help from Sean a fellow Red Mak owner this was soon sorted !

Progress is going to be steady due to work and family commitments , and the fact I want it damn near perfect !

I will post the updates as and when they happen , a few photos below show this afternoons progress. A few parts removed and half a tank of super unleaded drained !

To be honest I was really worried about what may lay beneath - considering its a uk car ! Yes there are areas of surface rust underneath the underseal but the floor pan and sills look pretty decent considering . Hopefully will be getting down to some serious underseal and rust removal soon :smthumbup

I couldn't find one anywhere in the UK when I was looking . Mr Ralliart found me a brand new one in Japan and sent it over for me . He's been a very helpful decent chap . I think I've binned the wrapping it came in with the part number label . Sorry .
Yeah there hard to find now but I did manage to get one although it did come to £107 with delivery :shake:
I Don’t suppose you can remember where you got the primary and secondary brake lines from, the ones from the master cylinder to the ABS pump part no MR129933 & MR129934 as its another part I’m struggling to find :shake:

I definitely got them from my local main dealer , I think they were a special order part so had to wait a week or so for them to come over from Japan if your struggling perhaps they no longer available? Hope you find some soon 👍
Any updates mate? Or is it still locked up?

No mate .... It's still sat in the garage all safe and sound :smthumbup

Just not enough time this time of year to get much done , but a least with working so much I'm saving the money up to get it finished off nicely :smthumbup

There's a guy in Japan on Ebay that has 2 bulkhead insulators left.

That's where I got mine from in the end :smthumbup
It said he only had two left when I purchased mine so not sure how many he's got but once the import charge was payed it worked out at £108.50

Had a few hours spare this afternoon so managed to get round to a bit of winter protection that's been sat in the garage for a while !!

First time in daylight for ages ....

Still looking like I remembered....

With the garage empty and with the help of the kids put together the carcoon that I bought of a fellow member last year , brilliant bit of kit and so simple to set up ...

That's it tucked safely away for another month , full steam ahead during the winter months though .

I have an 8MR import and my body kit is now disintegrating after 11+ years of use.
The shell is alright but I can see surface rust underneath in some places.

If I may ask, can someone give me costs/quotes they get/got to have this complete restoration done by a shop (sealing + full body paint)?

So far I have been told to expect a minimum of £8K quote even before they have seen the car nor done anything it.

I am happy to have landed on this thread because I have the desire to restore it my self and I wondered if someone had done work on his own prized EVO already :)

Managed to beat the snow this morning and safely got the Mak to the paint shop !

Been busy over the past few weekends stripping the doors down , removing stickers , lights and the spoiler ready for the boys to freshen it up . A few little blemishes that I'm not happy with so full respray it is .

On arrival ...

Home for a couple of weeks ....

Half hour later ...

Delivered the bonnet to the paint shop today , it was the only thing I couldn't get in the back of the L200 with out risk of damage .

Work has started , doors are off and being prepped up along with side skirts , boot, bumpers , fuel flap, mirrors and spoiler.

As it sits waiting for windscreen man to remove screens , and the front wings to come off as well .....

Bits everywhere...

Also dropped off the engine bay colour paint for the underside of the bonnet . Hopefully will see fresh paint on soon

Great attention to detail - love it - will set this TME apart as one of the best. :smthumbup

Popped in to see how the project was going today , dropped off a new trim that goes between the windscreen and the roof as it got slightly damaged when windscreen was removed ... no big drama as stock item at Mitsubishi U.K. and only £20

A few photos of the progress so far ....

Not a great photo as it makes it look completely the wrong colour... but the underside of the bonnet spayed with the proper engine bay colour too match the engine bay and wing tops ...

Can't wait to see everything going back on soon !!
