Watched the latest Fifth Gear and they had the new M5 on it, and they mentioned that if ordered today people can expect delivery in two years so when i was on my way to Cambridge today I was shocked when a spanking new M5 FLEW past me, it was travelling at least 140 and flying around bends and roundabouts, finally caught up with it and the reg was M005 BMW and managed to get this rubbish picture if it.

I have to say it sounded and looked AWESOME :coolsm:  and the guy driving had some major skills, I guess it was a press car or someone very important in it

Hmm I know of guy who has imported two of them and is looking for 74k each (a bit more than the actual asking price) but he is looking to make a profit as they wont be available for a long time hence some exclusivity for a bit. Maybe thats the same guy. :)

Well i didnt "finally catch up with it", he had slowed down and i got there, i couldnt beat him in the Evo, cos my Evo is sitting in some independant garage for sale  , was driving a slow bmw 330.

Honestly in the flesh it looks very nice IMO and it makes a sweet grunt when given some stick

M5 Beater

Guys,

Seriously the M5 is a fast car and totally amazing but then there is something called the B5. This is Alpina's M5 competitor and it runs the same horse power but has 700nm of torque. I work for BMW Alpina and have drive both the B5 and the M5. Conclusion the B5 will demolish an M5, it is unreal. When the traction is left on the warning light STOPS flashing at 100mph and then you get full acceleration all the way up to the unlimited top speed of 180 naughtiness miles per hour plus! As we probably all know the M5 is a 5 litre V10 normally aspirated engine but the B5 is a 4.5 litre V8 but SUPERCHARGED, thus it has the same power but 33% more torque, both developed lower in the rev range than the M5!

Food for thought, the forced induction route as per turbo charged Evo's and super charged B5's is still the way to get big power and huge torque.

I guess that is Alpina not a really BMW competitor if they use the BMW car as a base. Are they owned by BMW?

Alpinas are very good cars, in many instances better than the equivalent BMW models. However, show me a 15 year old Alpina B10 that can get support like an equivalent M5 can. A BMW M car can be taken to any BMW garage and be assured of the parts & knowledge required - it's this kind of backup that BMW have built their reputation on. In comparison, a 15 year old Alpina is a liability in almost all respects.

The other major aspect is resale value, there is a reason that an Alpina will depreciate more than the comparable M Model...

In 10 years time, give me the M5.
