Right, i'll keep this as short as possible. Popped out tonight to fill up with v-power @ 8.45ish and was back home for 9.30. Now i like to think i am a good boy with regards to noise, i don't play loud music and i'm not one for revving the nad's off of any car in a built up area.

Anyways, i get parked up all nice and neat then let the car run down for a minute while removing my cd player face off and the changer magazine, then Mr Nosy on the right of the cul de sac decides to open his kitchen window blinds and start staring at me (not the first time). I notice this and wave at him then give him the thumbs up after which i got out the car, turned off and was heading inside. Then i hear "he's just a silly boy with his little car.......we'll take it up with them in the morning" getting shouted for my benefit.

For those wondering, i've got a blizt nur spec cat back system but i am still running the std cat as well. I had a look on the local council website with regards to noise and it says
"Matters such as excessively loud exhausts or horn use are dealt with by the Police under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations." So i would assume that the council would not be interested if they complian about the noise from my Evo.

These are the only people in the area that appear to have a problem, they do have a 4 year old in the house (they are the grandparents) but there are two other households with younger children which i get no complaints from, they have an old lady living next door to them and i get no complaints from her. The rest of the neighbours like my car and often comment on how good it sounds/looks when i'm out washing it.

Sorry for the essay but does anyone know where i stand with regards to the law etc. Am i the one in the wrong here and will i be getting a visit from plod with a noise meter anytime soon? Maybes some of you may have been in a similar situation or maybes you are lucky enough not to have any neighbours :D

at the end of the day its your car and you need to let it cool down so why they cant "endure" the noise for a couple of minutes is beyond me. id just say look mate its for a couple of mins to let the car cool down and then its over and then rev it and show him the true roar of the blitz :D

You get no complaints from the old lady next door because she's probably deaf ;)

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago, working shifts when on earlies up at 5am in the garden take the cover off my gsxr600 and let her warm up before leaving for work. The end can was a little loud used to emit nice flames too anyway popped in the local shop on the way home one day, the woman working there lives across the road " did you go to work this morning at 5:28 this morning" erm about that why " i fooking heard ya" the cheek of it when her son has a battered escort and a peco big bore 4

I got a nice letter from the council saying that "someone" has complained and they are going to investigate if my car constituted a noise nuisance.

What they do (or say they do) is send someone around at random intervals to see if you are committing a noise nuisance. To be guilty it has to be a certain db reading but also last for a significant length of time. Even if the council man is there as you pull up/drive away and your db is off the scale...as it is such a short time they will conclude that you are not a noise nuisance.

Don't worry about it.

Tell them to stop shouting or you`ll call the police as you feel threatened and thats actually a form of assault. Then politely inform them they could also recieve a "notice of intended voicebox removal" letter, and also "impersonation of Brians mum in Life of Brian" :)

i had my neighbours complain about my supra because it was too loud(118db) and i got a noise abatement letter through. I phoned the council and they said that they had told the complainant to make a diary over the next two weeks and if it looked too frequent they would fit a db meter in their house. I just put my exhaust bung in for the two weeks :D

I had a V gsr with a really loud exhaust.
My next door neighbours complianed when I got rid of it as it woke them up at exactly the time they needed (0750) - so they stopped using their alarm !!
The day after I sold it they woke up late for work - hence the complaint :D

Reading this has made me laugh and brightened up my morning at work :D If i used the Evo every day then i could possibly empathise with him but i bought the Evo as a second car to use mainly at weekends and for track days. I've used it 3 times in last two weeks

I say get a De-cat and new manifold. Let the thing warm up for 10 mins a day etc.
You could always put CCTV on their house when your at work so you can tell if they've had a discreet DB meter fitted by the council when your at work - if they do you could pop your bung in etc to calm things down for a couple of weeks. Once the Council waste their time once they will brush off the majority of future noise complaints from this household regarding you!
