Hi,

Need some advice in regards to my car.

I used to get the stutter/power cut when putting the foot down in any of the gears. I changed the spark plugs which instantly rectified that issue.

However, I've noticed when launching from 1st gear, it does an extreme version of this power cut in 1st gear only. It initially launches at full boost but then it cuts out completely for a split second then goes back onto full boost. This happened when launching both at 5k and 6k revs.

Wallace performace took the car out for a test run and (typical) they couldn't replicate the issue so they cannot advise me on it. What could it be?

Thanks

Power cut as in bogging down ( like its dumping fuel )or as in everything cutting out( electrics)

This might sound silly but check your battery leads are tight and cant wiggle off.

I had a similar problem that when i booted it sometimes the positive battery lead was lifting off the terminal and causing the car to cut out/bog down (like a harsh fuel cut) baffled me for ages but turned out to be something silly like that.

Hope you sort it out!

Sounds a bit like overboost.

Something else unlikely as it may be is something which happened to me recently, the mph converter became faulty and between gears it would spike and send the needle up to 190mph and cause the limiter to cut in. Took ages to figure it out and it was only when i noticed the needle swinging wildly (as i was usually looking at the road) that i guessed it was the problem. Just an idea.....

Needles are fine, its just a boost cut - a bit like the cut I got before changing the spark plugs.

I'll check the terminals of the battery just in case.

It comes on full boost, then stutters for half a second then comes back on again. It could be overboosting or overfuelling I guess but I don't know why it didn't happen when the garage was looking at it!

They've just rang me saying that have a faulty lambda sensor too, I don't suppose that would have anything to do with it?

Thanks

Do you have active launch control via the oem ECU? If you have access to an open port lead temporarily disable it and try launching again, my bet would be that you've got a slight break / loose connection on the cable that feeds the speed sensor input into the ecu, that'll cause the ecu to think the vehicle is stationary and engage launch control which will give the type of fault your describing

Quite a common wire break as MPH converters get bodged in on this wire all the time

I had exactly the same problem, it only happened since I got it remapped tho, won't mention who. Took it to ant at indigo, he remapped it again and sussed that it was the standard ecu launch control kicking in and hadn't been switched off when originally mapped. He remapped it, switched it off and it's never occured since.

So he didn't actually fix the problem just switched off launch control?

Car has an OEM ECU. And it does have launch control at 6.5k revs. Thats interesting, I'll see if I can get them to check the wiring on the car, hopefully its not a mapping issue! Might just disable launch control - thats cheating anyway :p

Thanks guys :D

I have the exact same problem but only occurs at 5-6k rpm in second gear, but noticed I have a rusty actuator on a standard 7 turbo so going to replace this and see if it cures it.

yours also wouldnt be rusty?

Just an idea but......how long are you holding launch for before releasing the clutch??......if it's more than a second or 2 then try holding the revs near your launch point and then only hitting launch for a second before releasing the clutch, just to see if it makes a difference..........might be a rubbish idea but worth a try.

Yeah I've done both and the issue persists. I have a feeling the launch control is the culprit.

Launch control on the stock ECU works by activating different maps when under a mappable set speed - different timing and fuel to build boost.
