Hi everyone Im new here. My mate has an EVO 3 and we need some info. Weve just done a small overhaul on the engine bye fitting EVO 6 pistons, New std turbo with 360 deg bearing, New timing belt and metal head joint. The Spec is

EVO 6 Pistons
Std Turbo 360 deg bearing
Big Bore Hypermuffler
HKS Induction kit
Deecated
Rally Art ECU
Steel H/Joint

Its covered about 500 mls. The engine wasnt quiet running right after the rebuild but he had been taking it easy for the first 400 mls so it wasnt a problem. Hes now started to open it up more and there was a slight bit of dett in the higher gears and it wouldnt boost above 0.5 bar in the higher gears like 4th and 5th but would boost to 1.1 bar in the lower gears. So we looked at his timing and it was set at 10 deg BTDC. Weve now knocked this back to 5 deg BTDC at 800 rpm and the car flys now, It now pulls strongly in all gears. The boost peaks at 1.5 bar and then drops to 1.1 bar in 5th. Can anyone give me any advice on what settings to run this car given its spec.

a few thoughts....
fit an uprated fuel pump & adjustable regulator
run approx 38-42psi fuel pressure dependant on air-fuel ratio readings via a wide-band lambda

limit boost to 1-1.2 bar for now but advance timing a little to e.g 8btdc...until you uprate fuel side
also make sure that you're not getting boost creep
i.e. fluctuating boost through the gears
...may mean that the wastegate flap isn't sealing properly

btw
where did you get the ralliart ecu from ?
was it via Martin W

Ok Ill get on this tomorrow and suss out the fueling and lambda probe, We were actualy disscusing getting a lambda sensor. It isnt getting boost creep, Since knocking back the timing its holding the boost well and peaking at 1.5 and dropping to 1.3 say and in 5th its 1.1 or just over. It wasnt doing this before. How do you adjust the boost level on this engine, Is it just dependent on how much pre load is on the actuator? Im not sure where he got the ecu from but Ill find out tomorrow. He may have got it from someone on here. Cheers

ah...was just curious MW....

re: boost
no....don't use the actuator to adjust
get a dawes or other ball/spring device as cheap option or better still, get an electronic boost controller

& you'll defo need to check fuelling/get uprated pump & afpr if peaking at 1.5bar
...that'll be the e6 pistons ...although be careful

Hi mate its me allright, How you doing. I did notice you earlier and wondered if it was you. Ive turned coat. Gettin into EVO's now, I take it youve got one. What model is it?

Right a few more quetions. Ive seen my mate and he says it isnt holding boost with the Ralli Art ecu, Itll peak at 1.5 but drops to 1.1 and sometimes less. I take it this is because there isnt sufficient fuel there, Its not detting though. So weve swapped back to the std ecu until hes ran it in fully. Its running nice now but well down on previous power. We had the timing at 5 degrees with the Ralli Art and have set it to 3 degrees with the std ecu. We are going to try it at 5 again and then 8 to see how it behaves.

What should std boost pressure be and ignition timing, Its now boosting to 0.5 bar and holding in all gears. Were not going to run the Ralli Art ecu until we get the bits you suggested. What fuel pump should he be buying for this and also is there a specific afpr for this car or will any one do. He thinks he has one sitting about that came off a Peugeot? What should the std fuel pressure be? Why does fitting EVO 6 pistons alter things? Is the compression slightly higher and the ecu is altering settings to compensate for this. Thank you for taking the time to read our speal. Cheers

std boost is about 0.8 i think should be able to run 1-2 most people o9n here use the sard reg std presure is about 41 and the walbro urated pump the e3 has a larger turbo than mine ive got an evo 2 ull allso need an adaptor for the fuel rail i used to have fuel cut with std pump ano reg but since fitted these no probs allso got a gizzmo chip fitted ; they say they over fuel with the standard reg sent u pm earlier ; allso try the search alot of imfo in there very helpfull my boys still well into the but im hooked on the evos now im sure u will soon sort it out m8t
