Hi Guys & Gals,

Looking at buying my first Evo this weekend and would love a III.

Generally they are a little out of my price range but i have stumbled onto this one on the Autotrader website,

Its the top one priced at £4495.

I know you get what you pay for but i have spoken to the guy and he says its a grade 4 in lovely condition only imported last week. He hasnt got a auction sheet as he bought it from a dealer out there

What do you guys think, What should i look out for when going to view it.

I have read the buyers guide on this site but theres nothing like first hand experience.

had a quick look but none of them mentioned an 'ESVA' test
- you should ask:
1. whether they have one
2. if not...why
3. when the exact manufacture date was/is (will answer 2 above)

cars have to be 10years old and over to be exempt, so if any cars in those ads are manufactured e.g. at a later point from now but 1995, you won't be able to drive it legally without the esva docs
....it'll have to be sitting in your garage (or wherever) until it is usable
- generally an ESVA will cost £500+ to have done

i've noticed with a few of my customers III's that the piston rings fry quite easily. mitsi said it was just an unlucky few over time. so take the oil cap off and feel for some back pressure plus look for any smoke in the exhaust:
white smoke - burning water
black smoke - over fuelling
blue smoke - burning oil

Good point about the ESVA, I had forgotten all about that.
Please send me your mates details, I would rather buy a car privately of here than a dealer any day. :coolsm:

The back pressure you mentioned How do i check?
Start the engine, Open the bonnet and remove oil cap.
Feel for pressure pushing out of the entrance?
Is pressure coming out good or bad?

Will check for smoke as well, thanks

you want a little back pressure i'm talkin no more that a slight tingle on your hand, too much and thats serious, to little it'll prob just need the engine flushed. with any older car i always use forte engine flush, its the dogs ******** compared to the rest
