Does anyone know what the maximum speed of an Evo 1 is? It is just one of the questions on the SVA form.
Thanks

140 mph (if derestricted, 112mph if not)

but you don't need to SVA any car over 3 years old I believe

Hi
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately a car has to be ten years old before it doesn't need to be SVA'd.

White II,
Taken from http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm

Non -type approved vehicles less than 10 years old that are personally imported are required to pass a Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test. To qualify as a Personal Import [PI], the following conditions have to be met.

· If the vehicle has been imported by a person entering the United Kingdom;

· That the person had, at the time the vehicle was imported, been normally resident in a country other than the United Kingdom for a continuous period of at least 12 months;

· That person intends to become normally resident in the United Kingdom;

· That the vehicle has been in the possession of that person and used by him in the country where he has normally resident for a period of at least 6 months before its importation and

· That the vehicle is intended for his personal or household use in the United Kingdom.

Personally imported vehicles over 3 years old, that meet the above criteria, will be subject to the MOT test.

The Vehicle Inspectorate will need to be satisfied that the person importing the vehicle complies with the above criteria.

Check out your nearest Proton dealership - they have loads of Evo 1's in all the time.

Should be able to help you with these figs.

(am I going to get a barrage of abuse for this?)

No 'cos we are secure in the knowledge that we can drive whilst you have to use fancy electronics to get you around corners ;)

The 10 year bit is correct, only over 10 years old DONT need SVA.
Whatever you put on the SVA form they will rate the rest of the car accordingly.
IE if you dont have high enough speed rating on the tyres for 140MPH then it will fail.
I would send the car to someone who specialises in preparation to get your car through the test if you havent done it before.
I can recommend someone if youre stuck.
Save you time and amp; money in the long run.

p/s
were you not the guy who was going to help others with the importing of vehicles and amp; acting as an agent?
Although you were only trying to help i think that it is probably best to leave that sort of thing to the professionals.

Hi
i think I probably will leave it to pros. This car's for my dad so obviously its a lot cheaper to import it ourselves then buy from another company.
I'm still trying to sell my Skyline for something that I can get insured. A Yugo 45 is gonna cost me over £900 to insure so I figured I may as well get a decent car and get my money's worth. I'm thinking somethin along the lines of Golf, Lancia Delta or Lancer Turbo so if anyone has any recomendations let me know.

The car just arived in Newcastle on 10th of April. At the moment its totally standard GSR with the LSD. I'm gonna buy a Blitz induction kit and and Blitz dump valves in the next few days. Probably be another 3 and a half weeks before the cars on the road though.

310bhp sounds good to me!!!
I won't get any extremely expensive mods at first because it is my dads car but let me know a few of the things you would recommend doing first. Also what kind of brakes do you have?
Thanks

sorry if I was wrong.

I'm sure it was just cars under 3 years old when I had mine a year or so ago. I remember similar threads discussing it and that was the ggeneral concensus of opinion.

cheers

I'd go for a nice induction kit, exhaust, and downpipe first to aid breathing. A real quality set of spark plugs and HT leads wouldn't go amiss either.

by the way, what skyline do you have?

My Skyline is an R-32 GTs-Turbo. I really don't want to sell it but I can't get it insured. I'm still open to sugestions as to what car to buy then I can use the money that I get from the Skyline to insure myself.

I also have an Evo 1, where would anyone recommend (near to Cheshire cos I live in North Wales) to have my Speedo calibrated, cos I am sure the speedo is wrong. I have had the kph/mph converted, but the trip seems to go bonkers if you 've been under the bonnet.

Thanks.
