I'm sure some of you guys have an automatic (electric) garage door ... I've been quoted around £2000 for a Rollexa door (approx 2.6m h x 2.0m w). To me this sounds a little steep...? Are there any other electric door makers I should be looking at please?

When I was looking all the garage door specialists were charging extortionate amounts. It depends to some extent on what type garage door you have to start with, but I'm using a DIY one from Wickes which cost me £99. They work best on the up and over doors which go back on rails with no overhang, although mine is a canopy door, so I needed an extra kit (at least an extra 20 quid!). It works fine and has been going strong for over 2 years now. I guess security isn't brilliant, but paying more may not improve that much, and the standard up and over door is inherently insecure anyway. I take the view that someone who wants to get in will do so through a window etc. I've got an alarm in the garage anyway.

Mine took 2-3 hours to fit.

I had mines done around a year ago. Job scope was

Remove the two original single doors
Remove centre pillar (Lintel already in place)
Fit motorised door, sectional approx size 17 foot by 7 foot.

Priced at £2400

Yes the price you were quoted sound steep.
