Ecuflash

I developed a valet map using ECUFLASH. It was very simple yet completely effective!
I have 4 different maps and can re-flash my ECU when ever I need to. One MAP allows me to launch at 5,500rpm with 8-12 psi of boost! Launch control on the factory ECU... I like it! As long as you have the cable ($100 or so) and the software (its free!!!!) there isn't anything to stop you. Well, you need to know what you are doing or have access to someone that does.

Its been a steep learning curve for me but well worth it. Anytime I think how much money I have spent over the last 3 years on ECUTEK remaps makes me want to vomit.

Guys if you aren't using ECUFLASH you should be! I hear WRC Tech and Tracktive are looking into ECUFLASH or may even be using them by now. This should drop the cost of their remaps substantially.

You just have to love the Tactrix cable & ECUFlash!

There is even free faultcode software and another (free) logger available here http://www.aktivematrix.com/forum/

If you look hard you can even overcome the 'lock' some vendors put on ROMs after they flash them ;)

Ohhh I like your virtual dash.

I DL'd that unlocker a while back. Very handy indeed. I suggest if any of you dont have it, you should get it quickly. You never know when it may be 'removed'. I hear ECUTEK is very unhappy about it. :moon:
if anybody wants a copy of my virtual dash you can download it

It's not a worry. If the unlocker gets removed there is another method of unlocking the ROMs ;)
Hi

I see the whole thread is ocupied by the converted so far. I have had a couple of contacts from people who have clicked my sig and were interested, but I am supprised there arn't more who've picked up on this and the other tool availiable.

Great community support, guys who do stuff for free, like those at Aktive Matrix, are top. Can't wait to see Mitsilogger 1.5.

iv been doing a lot of research on this recently too, got the cable and software just not 100% confident doing it myself, would be great to meet up with people who have done it themselves would be great to learn more

maybe we should organise something if people are up for it?

I'd love to offer, but am not in a position to do so ( no I'm not in jail). I felt the same as you when I first started, my advice would be to read the ROM from your car, then spend some time getting use to the maps and how the software works. Then change say, one cell in the boost limit table, up it by ten and flash it back into your car.

The flashing part is really easy, so after that you can concentrate on tuning rather than flashing. I'd also advise to get some free logging software like Mitsilogger and run that. Again get use to reading the logs and look at other peoples to identify probems and look at good logs.

I can appreciate why people might not want to start changing stuff initially but I am surprised - considering the low costs - that more don't get the cable and just data log their cars or use the virtual gauges. Even just to check what their commercial tuner has done. You can even log the boost via the MAP sensor on the IX.

Once you start seeing the boost, timing, load, knock etc you can very quickly get a handle on how things work.

Then, as Burgers suggests, just copy the maps off - safe enough as you are not changing anything - and you can start comparing the maps to what the car is actually doing before considering investing in wideband O2 and actually making changes.

It's a scare thing remapping your own car as an amateur - I know, mine was less than 6 months old when I first flashed it - but if you take it bit by bit, you can build your knowledge and confidence before doing anything that might cause damage.

The stock ECU has good knock control, which adds some safety when adjusting things. Wideband O2 is necessary if you intend to make alterations though.

The IX is a dream because it is so easy to get more power from the stock setup by increasing the boost targets and wastegate duty. :)

My 320 is currently touching 1.7bar peak and holding a load better without any knock on the stock setup with just de-cat and fuel pump. :D

If you are worried about your warranty you can even flash the stock map back on when it goes in for servicing, 5 min job ;)

is there any ecu unlocker released yet that will deffinatly unlock my ecutek'd ecu?
a helpful couple of links for others looking for newbie guide to this:

another thing iv just discovered is this:

http://www.jestrtuning.com/pages/mode1.html

this would certainly give me more confidence to start with a map from them which i can in time once i learn more edit myself, i think thats probably the safest method for starting out once my wideband arrives.

Jestr also has a 6 month subscription service for $200 which alows you unlimited flashes, I think thats pretty good value.

Some of the stuff offered is so easy for you to do yourself. Boost cut for example.
1. open ROM
2. Click in the box "Boost limit"
3. Left click mouse in the cells you want to change (like in excel)
4. press = key on you PC
5. Enter the value you want 250 would be a good start
6. close box
7.save ROM
8.Flash to car

so am i right in assuming in the boost table 200 equals 1 bar boost so 260 would be around 1.6 bar boost? if so it seems fairly simple bring the boost in at staged levels on each cell.
Hi

Ok, the map above is for boost cut. The load that the ECU will cut fuel, if that load is exceded for a specific time ( that one is Boost cut delay timer). So to raise your boost cut from the stock 230 ( Evo VII) you just click in the boxes you want to change and enter the figure you thinks safe. You can also use the + and - keys to adjust the cell. Ralliart maps have 319, which means no boost cut at all, not that great an idea. As you can see, the great boost cut problem that plauges a lot of people can be fixed in about 5mins if you have a map deffinition for your car.

The load does not directly relate to boost, though it will get you in roughly the right area. Misti logger and Evoscan use a little calulation to get you even closer and that clever fellow John Banks has worked out how to modify the ROM file so you can log the actual load the ECU is using real time.

I double check all this agains the timing advance for each RPM I'm working on. If at 6000 RPM I have 11 deg, I look at the timing map and that gives me 220 load cell.

Raising the boost is a bit harder as you have to co-ordinate the ECU with the restrictor pills in the boost lines, but again quite a lot of that has been done. Getting rid of the stock taper at stock boost levels, is about as easy as raising the boost cut though.

The number to which you refer is a calculated engine load figure in the boost cut table. Increasing the number in each rpm zone basically moves the fuel cut up. The engine load is calculated from other parameters but very roughly, 100 would be about atmospheric pressure, 200 would be about 1bar, 300 about 2 bar.

Here is a portion of a log from an IX to give you an idea.
