hi all

thought this might be interesting
note this was a rolling start from and amp;lt;2000rpm in 1st which actually makes it about a second slower to than if you did a standing start
timing was pulled between 4500 and 5500 so will add more fuel here
slight knock at top end also so might take a degree out of the timing
MAP is in kpa (absolute) so 200 would be 1 bar, etc
i have the boost set to 220 (1.2 bar) to 6000 and then are tapering it down 1.15 at 6500 and 1.1 at 7000
02 sensor kaput so no reading for it

Fit a bigger fuel pump, there is a bosch high pressure high fits into standard place easily. Then raise max boost to 1.4 with thesame curve at the top as you have although I like to set it to 1 bar at 7000rpm but looks good anyway. Ha Ha

Did you get caught??

i still have some fuel left at 4500 to 5500 so will add more here but no more at 6000|PLS| as injectors at 99%. egt is touching 950 on the top of 5th gear also so yes need more fuel. once she's right at 1.2 then will turn it up to 1.3, then 1.4, etc

do you know the model number of the bosch pump?

Yes I do know the fuel pump number but its at work, Ill dig it out and send it to you. Do you measure the temp of the turbo before the turbo ie in the manifold or do you measure after the turbo. I ask this beacuse there is a temp drop through the turbo so if you measure before this is OK but if you measure after this will make the real temp approximately 100 degrees higher!!

What ECU is it, Motec??

The probe is in the number 1 exhaust runner about 2 inches from the port. I figured this should be the leanest.

ECU is link, it came with a basic MAP and then I have been developing it from there. Is the Bosch pump this one PN# 0580254-984 ?

Sorry wasnt in work today get the number after the weekend. Never had anything to do with link used a bit on autronic though. Heard that the link is quite good for its money from a friend in NZ.

Just reading your page, interesting on the ECU side. The higher boost we get with the GEMS is as you suggest from a smaller jet between the T piece and the compressor housing. 1mm standard but try a 0.8 we have used 0.6 on GRP N and lower for engines with different pistons etc. With a restrictor on the turbo intake on rally cars though the boost curve has to be set measuring the vaccum between the restrictor and the compressor wheel to ensure that there is no over speed. You wont experience this on a road car because of the size of the standard inlet hole but be wary that when you change the jet in the pipework this increases the whole scale of the boost curve. You probably already know this but just pointing the obvious to avoid any mishaps!!!

Thanks for the settings. The boost control of the link is very, very good - possibly the best feature (unlike cold start - although ok now) so I should be able to safely limit the boost while getting it on boost earlier by making these changes. I always data log after making any changes to ensure there is not unacceptable knock.

Britton motor cycle company (remember daytona?) can make pistons (and rods) at reasonable cost, although those in the 6 are pretty good, so more a case of keeping det and temps under control to ensure there are no problems. Vr4 rods are an option although their are issues with these as well (journals). This company (denco) also make rods if need be.

Link is only 2 miles down the road from my office so why not support them? They helped tune my car and also cleaned it, which as I drive on dirt roads a lot (car always dirty) is nice.

Would appreciate the PN of the pump.

great data, although I'm still trying to understand it.

Obviously MAP is Manifold Abosolute pressure, Inj is presumable injector duty cycle, KNK is reading from knock sensor, O2 is oxygen, ADV is timing advance but what is WG%.

If Inj is duty cycle I think you have to upgrade injectors or pump urgently as suggested by fastas. I'm trying to remember what it said in 21C Peformance but I wouldn't go above 70% duty cycle otherwise you risk lean outs that will cause detonation. Or have i missed the point somewhere?

Shame the O2 sensor was not working.

Yeah I am still trying to understand it too!

wg% is the duty cycle of the wastegate solinoid - the ecu cycles this open or closed. You set an initial 'guess' (so 87% means open 87% of the time) The computer then adjusts this up and down to try and maintain the boost you have set for the rpm (can set every 500rpm). The higher the initial guess is set the quicker it comes on boost but the more likely it is to overshoot (you can also set a sensitivity to help control this). I haven't altered any of the restrictors yet but will experiment with this too.

I now have a new o2 sensor and have got shielded one that should tolerate exotic fuels better. The standard mitsi is 4 wire (possibly wideband too) but v expensive. This one is 3 wire so am in the process of fitting it.

It's interesting to note that at higher rpm this actually starts to decrease so the turbo is not having a problem with this level of boost.

Have since increased the fuel in the midrange also. I had to turn the fuel up to control the knock and also to try and bring down the EGT. Definately need a new pump (and/or rewire)!

1.2 doesn't seem that high (although i have cold air, intercooler pipes, etc so may be getting a cooler/denser charge)

Makes me worry about those people who are turning up the boost without monitoring knock or egt.

I beleive that was a tme evo 6.5! And it got drilled by a evo4 and rs wrx. Akiwi were you there? where are you from?

No wasn't me, as mine is a blue 6. The photos on my site were taken in Timaru though...

Got the evolink as I wanted something that was plug and play...unfortunately it wasn't quite that simple and on reflection i may as well have got the plus and adaptor cable.

Haven't tried the antilag program yet and to do proper antilag you need a way of holding the throttle open more than is possible with the stepper motor, etc.I'm not too worried about boost at idle but keeping it on boost as much as possible when driving through the twisties and changing gears is good so...

What I am going to experiment with first is activate the secondary air system (by turning solinoid on) and then retard the ignition and increase the fuel on row 1 (normally the fuel is turned off or close to zero and ignition is advanced to the max). This means that on the overrun I should be able to keep the turbo spooled better and reduce lag - will see!

Sorry Andrew. This was an EVO 6.5 and owned some guy called Scott Brady

The EVO 6 at the drags got 13.91 sec 1/4 mile. The WRX RA owned by a local Andrew Kitching got 13.27
Now the EVO 4 got 15.32. Which beat me in my 1800 (then standard) by .06 of a secound

Andrew if you want to run anti-lag you need to get a solenoid to hold the throttle open when anti-lag is on.

Andrew be careful when doing ALS maps if you want to put in feul at the base line, too much fuel makes the turbo into a gas turbine and seriously creates some heat, should have fuel limits in here.

thanks for the PN. the bosch agent reckoned a rewire may be needed but will check figures and have wired a multimeter to the pump

yes will go very easy on the fuel and at this stage will only increase above 3000-4000...can you reccomend a duty cycle?

If (!) you have access to a mut 11 ,with flight card,you can record similar information !
