I am currently preparing my spare Evo3 (kept in case I write off the Rallycar)for a bit of fun on the highway. I am de-spoilering the car to make it look like a standard Proton, but need a tamer-looking front bumper to complete the transformation. Has anyone a spare bumper from an Evo 1, or possibly an 1800GSR, surplus to requirements?

Does anyone else run a Sleeper like this? I did a similar convertion back in 1984, when I fitted Escort RS2000 running gear into a 1300 Escort Popular ex-Police car, great fun and I could leave the car parked anywhere without worrying.

Proton will supply them or go to a scrap yard, probably fun of protons. I know someone who has fitted a bumber for the proton model straight on to the back of a GSR 1800 no worry's, but dont know about the front, cause the intercooler is different on the early evos to that of the GSR 1800. A little bit of cutting may be needed.
Good luck.

Thanks, I have used a Proton Persona 5 door hatch rear bumper on my Evo 3 Rallycar. The front looks different, as you say, because of the intercooler.

The other problem you will have is that you get less respect from other drives. I drive a 1800 RS and when i was going up the M1 behind a Evo 1, everyone moved for the Evo becuase of the look, but no one moved caused they didnt want to have to move over for what looked like a Proton.
But your right no one wants to nick a Proton and i can leave mine anywhere (touch wood) and its safe, also a traffic lights no one knows whats hit them!

SilverRS

Get yourself a block of about 10 blue leds wired up to flash 5 times a second, fit them in front of the interior mirror and wire a switch to a blank in the dash.

I think you'll find people will be more willing to move over once you give 'em a blast on your new lights http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

Seriously though, is your car lowered? I've found that makes a big difference to the 'evil' factor.

I can lower the car, as I have a spare set of Drummond adjustable-platform suspension and loads of different springs. I also have some Tarmac racing tyres to use up, (road legal but now banned on Stage Rallys ... )

I will still have the EvoIII front bumper to fit, when I need some presence behind people to move them over, it only takes a few minutes to swop over.

Good feedback, but what about finding a bumper?

Thanks for the offers to swop bumpers, but I need the Evo3 bumper in case I damage the front of my Evo 3 Rallycar!

Your evo III could look less aggressive with an evo II bumper! http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/Wilk.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| middle >

Then my II could look even better with your III bumper!
