No they aren't. They are exactly the same. And even the uprated ones will fail eventually because the fault is with the diff design and not the bolts ;)

It'll make no difference whether or not you weld them in. I Loctited mine in and even though they were the upgraded 12.9 bolts they still snapped again.

P.S. There is a sticky thread all about the problem in the gearbox section and I *think* that there are photos kicking about in that thread etc..

Only solution is upgrade the diff but it's a bit extreme to do that :D

I'd just loctite em and pray ;)

It's not too hard a job to replace em anyway

Right. MMm...What diffs are out there to upgrade too?

I know someone who is selling a brand new Evo 9 RS diff for £250.

Would that be any good?

Kazz and Cusco do replacements I believe.

The 9 unit won't fit in your 5 because it's got the active centre diff.

I've never heard of anyone snapping 12.9's, was that under normal road use? :eek:

The problem lies in that they shake loose then snap so if you can prevent them from coming loose you've one the battle but of course if 1 does come loose then its gunna be alot harder to break the 12.9's than the 10.9's.

just replaced mine which was 12,9 all 4 snapped. twit who fitted em last never used thread lock :rolleyes:

Did mine recently and found 2 snapped and 2 finger tight. :shake:

Fingers crossed for 12.9's and plenty of threadlock. :crackup:
