Just after some advice... I am after a desktop pc and dont have a clue what to look out for as I am proper out of date with the subject. My last desktop had 32gb and that never got used lol:lol: Now I see tera bites etc:eek:

Usage:

INTERNET SURFING
VIDEO EDITING
PICTURE EDITING
GAMING (HAVE AN XBOX SO DONT KNOW IF I WOULD ACTUALLY USE IT FOR GAMES)
STORING PHOTOS, MUSIC, VIDEOS

I feel I dont need anything major but dont want to get something that puts me out of date... any good offers anyone knows of or a minimum spec I should be looking at?

Any advice would be appreciated and brands that people know are reliable etc.

Thanks,
GUM

How would you feel at buying the bits and assembling it yourself?
You can get some great bundle deals at the minute.

Sounds fun... is it much cheaper though? My cousin builds pc's so he could give me advice but I didnt think it would save much as a mate told me they are cheap enough in the high street these days.

I will need to get a decent color printer and a nice big monitor too which would bump the cost up a bit I supose. 24" monitor would be ideal.
Thanks,

Well for your needs you will need something with a decent graphics card and a good bit of processing power.
How much you looking to spend ideally?

was thinking 600 max then maybe 180 on monitor and same again on printer... If that expense would be overkill for my needs then obviously it will be added bonus to spend less:)

It wont be used that much in all honesty.

I would do some research and try to get a grasp of the latest processors.

Then have a look here. You select what items you want, They build it and deliver. For a high end gaming machine with 24" computer built and delivered by them was under £1k. I'm sure you will be able to get what you want no problem.

You could also try ebuyer.

They usually have some good deals for new machine bundles.

I would avoid Dell as I have lost count the amount of times I have seen one of their machines with a failed hard drive! :smthumbdo

Cheers for your time mate... looking on ebuyer as that other site just leaves me baffled:lol:
No problem. It's the least I could do after all the advice I have received from you.

If you see any you like the look of, Link them and we can have a closer look. :smthumbup

To build a PC is very easy these days and everything is just plug and play. What you need to think about though is if you build it yourself you will also need to allow money in your budget for an OS. Windows 7 still doesn't come that cheap and behind the processor and graphics card, will be the next most expensive outlay.

I assume for £600 you are looking for the complete PC? By that I mean monitor, keyboard and mouse also? As Michty said Ebuyer are good, they are the only people I use these days. I know you said it wasn't so much for games but it does make a difference if you are or not.

As a quick start point I have done a quick build here. Bear in mind you will also need a case, monitor, keyboard and mouse but I find they are individual choices. It maybe more than you are looking at but you can always drop the odd item down a few gears depending on usage:

Oh wait, you already stated £600 was for PC itself, so maybe it isn't far off what you plan to pay. There will of course be the odd difference in opinion but the above would be a nice setup. If it was me I would maybe double the 4GB RAM to 8 but again that is all budget specific. I actually made sure the mobo had 4 slots so you can always buy more if needed at a later date.

Looks like a not bad setup there.
I recently just got the GeForce 560 Ti OC edition card and it is fantastic for the price it cost.

Also managed to get W7 professional for £39 delivered and a genuine version at that too:smthumbup
try http://www.scan.co.uk

go for a sandybridge processor and at least 8GB RAM (gfx and video editing eats up RAM) ... and get a PC with an SSD (OS) and a HDD (mass storage)

look for a Geforce 560 or Radeon 6950 at a minimum for your gfx card

simples :)

I'm pretty sure he said £600 was about his limit though so not so simples? Once you start going down the route of SSD's you are beginning to leave the ballpark. If I thought it was money no object then sure but that wasn't the original point. Going from what he has currently £600 will be a huge upgrade.

Oddly enough this seems like a good deal at the moment as 560 Ti are still quite a bit more than the 460GTX. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/261244

Damn I know I should have had multi quote on! Don't suppose you could tell me where you managed to get OS from could you?
www.overclockers.co.uk

for bundles and good deals etc
Ok now I know I am definitely gonna be shot for not multi quoting! Isn't there someone on forums that works for overclockers? Maybe they could throw out some special deals to the Evo driving computer nerds?

I'd avoid them great prices etc but if something goes wrong then be prepared for one big headache trying to get them to sort it. Ended up taking them to court in the end to get my money back for faulty parts, Personally i use Ebuyer for 90% of pc parts i buy never had prob with them.
