A really good exterior cleaner is P21S Total Auto Wash (also now known as R222 Total Auto Wash). It's a citrus based all purpose cleaner that is ideal for cleaning really grimey exterior surfaces, such as wheels post-winter, wheel arches and anywhere else where persistent grime accumulates. For badges, it's spot on if you spray it on, and then agitate it gently with a soft detailing brush, such as the Meguiars Slide Lick Detail Brush. Once agitated, rinse off with plenty of water, and the job is done. Some pictures below showing this method in action...

When it comes to choosing a polish, a lot depends on whether you want to hide or remove defects, and whether you will be working by hand or machine. Tell me more about the condition of the car, what you want to achieve and whether you will be working by hand or machine and I should then be able to guide you towards the best product choice.
