I was doing some spirited driving last week and my car died on me. Initial inspection by my local mitsi dealer revealed the crank angle sensor had died.

They finally stripped it down this morning to find the balancer belt had broken which took out the crank angle sensor and caused the cambelt to skip 2 teeth on the cam gears!

The guy at mitsi said everything was going to have to be replaced (cambelt, tensioners, balancer belt etc) but they wouldn't know if there was any valve/piston damage until it was all back together.

Does anyone know if skipping 2 teeth on the cams would cause inference/damage? So close to selling the car so I don't need this

Almost exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mine on his Evo 2.

The engine needed rebuilding, so I don't think they are having you on!

They are correct if you are lucky and very lucky at that no internal damage will have happened, however the only way to find out is to put all the belts on and try it and find out!

Good luck
