Just wanted to share with you all my experiance with the Nissan GTR.

This is all fact after hours or phone call's, research, emails and contacting Nissan over the other side of the world.

Brace yourselves everyone, here we go.....................

Nissan GTR
6,000 mile service (or 6 months) ÂŁ683.00 inc vat
12,000 mile service (or 6 months) ÂŁ683.00 inc vat
Please note that the below costs are tentative costs and subject to final confirmation and change.
Maintenance Inspections
A performance optimisation service will be carried out at 1500 miles (mileage subject to final confirmation).
Maintenance Inspections will then be carried out at 12, 24 and 36 months.
These first four Maintenance Inspections are included in the price of your GT-R.
Costs of any future Maintenance Inspections will be announced at an appropriate date in the future.

Scheduled Servicing
The service interval for the GT-R is 6000 miles/6 months whichever comes sooner.
Tentative service cost examples have been provided by Nissan and are as follows (the following examples are an annual cost based on the quoted mileage):
Up to 12,000 miles per annum:
ÂŁ785 for scheduled servicing
ÂŁ4150 for scheduled servicing and replacement of brake discs and pads all round.

18,000 miles per annum:
ÂŁ1725 for scheduled servicing
ÂŁ5090 for scheduled servicing and replacement of brake discs and pads all round.
Cost of replacement tyres will be announced as soon as prices are available
911 Turbo is ÂŁ474 every 12,000 miles or 2 years & ÂŁ605 for major service 24,0000 miles or 4 years
Just for comparison purposes, the Porsche 997 Service prices are here:
http://www.porsche.com/filestore.asp...letype=default
Transmission oil should be changed every 120,000 miles or 12 years, as compared to every 1,800 in the GTR if you use the throttle (as stated in the manual)!
Just doing a quick comparison of GTR vs Porsche 997TT (so both 4wd, twin-turbo, 480bhp cars).

Services over 12,000 miles:
GTR requires two services total cost ÂŁ784
Porsche requires one @ ÂŁ463

Brakes.
GTR Front Discs/Pads = ÂŁ1,704
997TT as above = ÂŁ939
GTR Rear Discs/Pads = ÂŁ1,522
997TT as above = ÂŁ839

So basically if we add up all three of the above and assume a 12,000 mile ownership and a complete set of front/rear brake all round we get:
GTR = ÂŁ4,010
997TT= ÂŁ2,241

So the GTR costs 80% more than a 997TT to run on normal servicing/parts.
This of course excludes the ÂŁ446 cost of transmission fluid in the GTR that occurs every 18,000 miles vs ÂŁ124 every 120,000 miles in the 997TT. Interesting that Porsches 7 speed twin-clutch system needs one fluid change over 120,000 miles, whereas Nissans 6 speed twin-clutch system requires more than 6 fluid changes over the same period

facts from Nissan on the situation regarding 'VDC off', the warranty requirements regarding track-use, or indeed confirmed details of servicing or tyre costs.

Servicing costs over 12,000 miles including brakes of circa ÂŁ4,000.
Servicing/brake costs that are nearly or more than twice that of a Porsche 997 Turbo that costs double the price to buy.
A requirement for pre/post trackday inspections
Voiding of warranty between these dates
Voiding of warranty if the VDC is turned off.

All of these conditions and prices are completely at odds with what was expected at the time of placing the deposit, for a car that was advertised as "Anytime, Anywhere" and where the sales materials and indeed the driving introduction focussed almost entirely on it's track performance. This is also massively at odds with the requirements of manufacturers of the main competitor products, such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari and BMW, . None of them void warranty for track-use, other than due to 'abuse', or require any special pre/post-trackday inspections.

I reserve my right to cancel the GTR order and obtain a full refund on the basis that the car and it's uses are simply not up to what was advertised. There's also been a change in Wheel colour and tyres since the contract was signed.

Took me 4 weeks and letter to head office to get Nissan Westway (Oxford) to send me my deposit back.

Now I'm a very proud owner of a Evo X 360, when it arrives this Thursday :D

That is extremely pricey. I am a fan of the gtr but with the running costs so high and to worry about the costly repair of trans failure makes it a little harder to pick against 997 turbo which is a auto legend and with look cool 10 years later with the legendary shape.

And remember, if you service it at special workshops the warranty will be voided.

I was fully intent on buying a GTR and had a deposit since late last year.

Nissan dealer has been superb, Nissan UK have been a PITA.

I cancelled due to the ridiculous warranty stance regarding track use and traction control, and the requirement for post track day inspections.

The running costs were a lot higher than I expected, but it just added to the equation.

Discs and pads are a joke :D Non Nissan stuff will be much cheaper though.

And for me, it's such a big car that on a B road an Evo will be 90% of what a GTR can do.

It is bloody awesome, but it just started to seem not very sensible and I started to worry that all these issues would put people off the car and really hit the residuals.

I will have one though, just when all the dust settles on these issues and I can see what 2nd hand prices do.

As we should all know, Big boys toy's always cost, but the cost should be reasonable costs, not a complete rip off. I could run 3 or 4 Evo's for the price of one GTR.

We are moving to Devon, stones throw from the beach I've this urge to invest in another boys toy for the water....... so it would have been one GTR and no spare funds for the extra sun cream I'm going to need this summer, or Evo X with lots or toys for her, running and mooring costs for a power boat......

Yes, I'm getting the service package, just called so they can arrange this, thanks for the top tip.

As for the 911 turbo, I've been there (very good friend swapped cars with me for 3 months) not really my kind of driving experience around the roads in Devon, don't get me wrong it is a very nice car to drive but not for me, for me I'm a lover of rally driving experiences. Took the misses shopping once in the 911, that was a mistake....... bags of shopping soon filled up the car, boot....lol....back seats....pmsl.....

All this chit chat about cars is getting me more and more excited, can't wait......... even my run around is in the garage after we swapped cars back last month.....
NOTE to one's self, don't lend Meganne F1 to friend who has 911 turbo,,,,, new disks and pads all round, leaking rad, so while it's in the garage they are doing all the stone chips, wheel scuffs, ect.......It will look new again, now the wife has her eye on it..... she keeps telling me ""why do you need two cars when you work from home"" point taken, so she get a car upgrade as well.

Thursday soon :>) delivery day

Is there an official statement from Nissan GB on servicing through non-Nissan specialists ?

I thought there was some EU ruling that as long as a car is serviced using OE parts and using the same process as a main dealer, that warranty has to be honoured ?

Seems like there's a big black hole out there in the GTR dealership passing on information.
I never come across any official statement during my digging around, but I expect Nissan will try their hardest to keep the cars serviced at the dealerships, dealers have invested thousands in new equipment and training just for the GTR..... be interesting to see what happens in this particular area.

How do you feel about the per/post track day inspections to be done by Nissan, also chargeable.

VDC, traction control been switched of actually invalidates your warranty, spoke to one dealer and he said that only 10% of the worlds top driver would see any benefit from switching this off.

Litchfields add in jap performance states that they are now doing everyting service wise for the gtr's. I wonder how their pricing compares.

#32 ·
you get what you pay for ,ok running cost's are high if you go through nissan.mines a jdm so i dont go through nissan for service ect lots cheaper..but then some dont wana lose their warrenty ..

the gtr is awesome,im more than pleased with mine.

gtr wins hands down for me:smthumbup

think some are canceling due to the credit crunch an using the cost thing as a excuse ..:mhihi:

Teignmouth will be my base :>)
Local Devon jam might be on the cards

Sorry Raj, there's been no price given for the per/post track dat inspections.

It is going to be intresting on the secondhand market for the GTR, personally I think 3 years down the line they will still be asking ÂŁ40k plus

#38 ·
are there prices for the pre and post track day inspections ?

tbh i'd keep VDC on all the time since I know that the VDC "on" performance will be far in excess of what I as a driver would be willing to push the car to ... so no need to turn it off and wring the extra 1% out of the car at the risk of knackering something

however I still think it's cheeky of Nissan to allow people to turn off management of certain features and wash their hands of the warranty in some circumstances

may think about a GTR in 2-3 years time after the secondhand prices have had time to stabilise ... however they may still be the wrong side of ÂŁ30k if R34 GTR prices are any indication

:/

i agree with you raj,its daft regarding the vdc if you switch it off your warrenty is void so why have the switch in the first place ? i do recall someone on gtroc asking what happens if stuck in snow and you switch off the vdc to gain more traction.they say that wouldnt void the warrenty, its more switching off on trackdays/or what nissan claim abuse would only void.

personaly with everything in race mode is more than a handle full ,my experience on my test drive was brilliant was shown how far sideways it would go before it will correct it an bring it back .we did have few strange looks while doing this:eek:

you cant explain to someone in words just how good it is,you need to drive one to see just how good it is:smthumbup

No disrespect, but for all the OP's hours of research, would it not have made sense to have spent some of that time investigating the costs of parts and servicing from a non-Nissan specialist? Surely we all know that main dealers are a rip off, regardless of marque?

I didnt realise the EU rules also stipulated that correct diagnostic equipment had to be used?

Also, as I understood it - further rules were applied to the BER meaning that you did not have to use original OEM parts and could actually use 'matching quality' parts by a different OEM.

And the certification for 'matching quality' parts?

Self-certification by the OEM (in other words, anyone who makes parts they think can do the job)

edited to add:

And franchised and authorised dealers are allowed to use these parts too, they can not be forced by the 'the' OEM to buy their parts.
