Have my wheel bearings gone, get a metal on metal noise from side of car. Only really hear it when drving past cars or buildings, ie the noise bounces back. Seems to be getting louder.
Is this right or is it something even mre expensive.

Al,
Coast in neutral 2 determine if the noise varies with road speed and c if the noise changes when u turn left or right.

Wheel bearing noise is normally a drone , if it is metal on metal u there may b something jammed between the disc and suspension or possibly a brake problem.

Unseasonably mild weather has kept salt off the roads so far , hoping 4 another week or so b4 it go's into the Airchamber.
Then it's mod time , lots planned , some secret stuff

I have had a similar problem twice on my E6 and each time it has been a small stone caught in the brakes. Each time it has happened the stone has flicked out when I have reversed onto my drive.

If it has been going on for a while you may need the brakes looked at and manually remove the stone, if that is the problem.

if its bearings,like the man b4 said, the noise normally gets louder turning in one direction in particluar. Try turning in each direction in circles on full lock (maybe a car park is better than a road for this test )
