Interesting, i've just upgraded my broadband to the 2mb one that NTL is now offering, and my speed results didn't reflect this speed AT ALL.

My results were:

Downstream 422 Kbps (52.8 KB/sec) 455 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 151 Kbps (18.9 KB/sec) 163 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Not overly impressive that.

I have a 2mb connection, when I use the speed test it returns 1981 kbs down and 210kbs upload. Which according to blue yonder is about right.

Downstream 2768 Kbps (346.0 KB/sec) 2989 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Its about right for a 2Mb down/256Kb up connection... :)

i upgraded to 3 meg
Duran is your connection Cable or ADSL ?

your results arent far off 3meg , with cable you have to take the overheads into account ie how busy the network is at the time your running the test , mines is slower at peak times but faster later on at night

run the tests at diffrent times to see how the results differ

Sounds right for NTL to just bill you for the more expensive connection but not change the actual service.

Avoid NTL like the plague!

I changed my connection type from USB to an athernet card this evening and re-ran the test. Results were:

Downstream 1807 Kbps (225.9 KB/sec) 1951 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 180 Kbps (22.5 KB/sec) 194 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Somewhat more acceptable for 2mb broadband.
