hi all,
bought my first evo last month, new black ix fq360,
now dont know too much on cars anyway but am after some advice,
what is the difference between dump valves on bov's
i ask because i heard an evo pass few days ago that seem to have a chatter sound when changing gear!

i had dump valve on an old 5 turbo yrs ago and it didnt sound like this!

also will it void my warranty?

and what brand do you recommend?

thanks!

The 'chatter' sound you heard is actually called compressor surge. It's not particularly good for the bearings on a stock turbo, but it dubious whether it really causes problems at stock Evo boost pressures.

The sound you heard is produced by air being forced back past the compressor blades when the throttle plate is closed (i.e. when changing gear). When a BOV is fitted, this pressure is 'blown off' to atmosphere or back to the intake. When people remove the BOV, this pressure has nowhere else to go but backwards.
