Thought I'd share this with everyone and see if any similar experiences have been had.

I bought an HKS induction pipe recently to straighten the standard plastic stuff in the car and intended to use either the Blitz SUS filter or an HKS Super Power Flow one.

On close examination of the original pipe work it seems that an awfull lot of **** has managed to get through the filter and on towards the turbo! After conversations with various specialists, many have said the same thing. Apparently they are designed for Japan road and weather conditions which are very different to ours and as such will not deal with such a wide variety of climates!! Looking at the turbo blades I'd be inclined to agree too!!

Looks like i'll be changing to either Pipercross or something capable of UK style climate and new blades for the turbo too! New wallet required!!

Or do what I do (I think I'm alone on the MLR for doing this :) ) stay with the stock set-up.

Although looking at your profile we both have standard cars yet yours is producing 358 BHP so maybe that HKS filter is really giving your car pep ;)

Do they not have dust in Japan then? I don't know as I've never been.

Yes I believe they do, although it's:

A: Cheaper
B: More Technologically Advanced Dust
C: A lot lot smaller

if you are still running the MAF sensor then dont get a wet foam kit as the oil from it starts to build up on the sensor.

No, it is the filter designed for a wide range of possible conditions. Manufacturers tend to over-engineer certain parts of the car to cope with a range of possibilities. Are you actually suggesting that the likes of HKS and Blitz filters filter *more* than the stock set-up? But hey....if getting your engined scored and its life reduced is worth it for that extra 2 BHP then knock yourself out, it's your car.
