Hi,
I think I read on this board that the Evo 6 needs the AYC oil change every time the engine oil is changed ? Is this right ? I have the oil change and filter every 4.5K miles at my local one man band garage ( I trust him) Although he might not be able to set up the AYC as I heard that only a Mitsubishi garage can do this ???? Is this so ?

Any one seen and used the CD form Mitsu ?

To change the AYC oil, you need a special computer and a special pump. These are only sold to mitsubishi dealers... so that's where you have to go.

I have the CD ROM (about £50 inc VAT from Coordsport). It's interesting, but not the full story - it's an update of the EVO 5 manuals, which aren't available on CD.

Don't delay changing the AYC. Rally specialists BTR told me they've just changed the rear diff for a customer at 30K miles because he didn't have his AYC refreshed often enough.

It should cost you only £45 labour and £30 in oil, tops.

Mitsubishi Bedford quoted £16 plus VAT for the AYC oil and £6.97 plus VAT for the engine oil filter and washer (Part number MD322508)

Who are BTR and where are they based ?

Any one know a trusted dealer in Beds,Bucks,Herts or Cambs ?

Try Steve Hill Motorsport in Long Crendon (about a mile away from Thame) - might be too far for you, but worth a shout.

I've taken my 6 there for one service, and another couple of problems, and they seem pretty good (£30 per hour - £270 for a 4500 service, but that did iclude a 4.5 hour full spanner check). The guys at Hallmarks in Thatcham had heard of them, so I guess that's a good start!

Cheers

I was quoted £120 for the 4,500 interval lubrication service by Gatwick Mitsubishi. The car goes in for its 1000 mile oil change etc. @ £99 tomorrow (Tuesday 4th April).

Also: 9000 interval @ £200, but the biggie is at 45,000 @£650|PLS|!!

Was told price includes VAT.

I had my 1000 mile service done today for £96 all in (oil, filter, gasket, drain plug, service kit, inspection)

They handed me the NEW service price list that arrived today!

4500: replace AYC fluids (DIFF and amp; RESERVOIR), oil and filter, reset engine idle speed. (AYC is new addition to service) £164.68 inc

9000: as 4500, some more extensive checks and adjustments and swop front and rear tyres. £199 inc

18000 as 9000, replace brake fluid, air filter, coolant, some other system checks. £270.71 inc

45000 as 18000, replace timing belts A and amp; B, spark plugs, fuel filter, some other checks. £597.79 inc.

I also had a surprise. The car is fitted with an uprated sports suspension kit! They have adjusted the steering alignment as the wheel was slightly off-centre and the turn in is now much quicker.

I was given a free flow air filter by the importers, but I suspect that this car (which had been earmarked for someone else) had been upgraded and the deal fell through. If anyone can given info on the benefits and drawbacks of this air filter, let me know. I know that the CPU has to be adjusted to take advantage.

Mitsubishi said the car is genuine otherwise, although it only has a basic undersealing which I might want to improve in the next year or so.

Gatwick Mitsubishi have re-installed my confidence in them.

Steve Hill Motorsports in Long Crendon - 01844 201025 and speak to Mike Bennett or Dave. A small outfit, but they prepare rally Evos for Co-ordsport Germany, so should know there stuff. They don't have all the electronic diagnostic gizmos, but they know their AYC from ABS, which is good enough for me.

Tell 'em I sent you and amp; I might get a discount (I wish!).

Cheers

Hi All,

As recomended HummingBird St.Albans did my AYC oil and charged £54 plus VAT.

Gave me a copy of the works service manual and will forward to me a complete service charge and contacts by next week.

Good quick service with three RallyArt trained engineers on site.

Rang Whitehouse Mitsubishi at Bexley Heath(East London) and they quoted 2.5 hours to do the AYC oil change at £48 an hour, total bill £178!

Rang Hallmarks in Thatcham and they quote £75 |PLS| vat and say it takes an hour. Only trouble is the distance I have to travel from Kent but i'm b*gg*r*d if i'm going to let Whitehouse touch my EVO.

Thanks for the suggestions. Found out that Mitsubishi dealer in Canterbury will do AYC oil change for £70 and a 18000 mile service for approx £200. Funny that Whitehouse want 2.5 hours for the AYC and everyone else wants an hour!

Always shop around.

Cheers

In answer to styler's question. Yes I have a copy of the technical manual CD which I got from Coordsport for £38. It goes though the service procedure for changing the AYC oil, which does not,
according to the manual, necessitate the use of the 'MUT' or resetting the ECU. It is only if you bleed the ATF fluid from the hydraulics system that you need to reset the ECU and/or use the MUT.
I have just changed my ayc fluid on my evo6 with no ill effects so far. The only tricky bit is getting the filler plug back in, but it can be done.
If you need a copy of the procedure for this send your address to me @ [email protected] and I'll copy this part of the manual to you.
