Broken tensioner or far more likely, the bottom pulley has failed, outer ring has gone, leaving the belt sat on the inner ringWhen driving today the power steering went and battery light came on, drove last couple of miles home and when pulling into the drive the stereo lost power and all other electricals faded.
Checked the car and found the auxiliary belt is very loose.
I assume this is the cause but if the belt is just loose what could be causing this and what is the solution please?
you dont want to be starting or driving it again until it is fixed. If the car was running ok before you turned it off, its probably safe to assume its fine so far, but I wouldnt run it againThanks
Can this cause any damage?
Its not really a wear, its a perish, I dont think it would be that obvious unless failure was soon. Also its not an intended wear and tare part, its more like a part failure than a typical service itemHow come they don't include a check on the this pulley as part of the 45k service, surely it would show signs of wear especially by the 2nd 45k service interval?
Lol, think that a pretty definitive answer. My advice, replace with a new standard mitsi item, rather than aftermarket. Its lasted 20 years, so its simply just wear and tare, as the rubber bond perishes with ageNevermind the RAC came to look and found the crank pulley on the floor under the engine.... lol... going to replace all the pulleys now. :]
