Thanks
Can this cause any damage?
ThanksBroken tensioner or far more likely, the bottom pulley has failed, outer ring has gone, leaving the belt sat on the inner ring

Yeah it was running ok when I switched it off, haven't started it since so hopefully all is good.you dont want to be starting or driving it again until it is fixed. If the car was running ok before you turned it off, its probably safe to assume its fine so far, but I wouldnt run it again

That description fits with what happened, temperature gauge was showing hot but it never overheated as we were only a couple of mile from home.battery will need a charge, and may need replacing, but the aux belt runs the water pump, and alternator, if its the outer pulley ring gone, everything will be turning slower, this will be compounded now the belt is loose. Same loose issue if its the tensioner gone. Obviously this reduces cooling for the engine (especially as its so hot lately) and the dwindling voltage will increase current draw until the electrics fail (as they did)
The pulley if failed will look ok, unless you know exactly what you are looking for
good pulley

How come they don't include a check on the this pulley as part of the 45k service, surely it would show signs of wear especially by the 2nd 45k service interval?battery will need a charge, and may need replacing, but the aux belt runs the water pump, and alternator, if its the outer pulley ring gone, everything will be turning slower, this will be compounded now the belt is loose.
