I am just about to get an M3 and then i thought i would look at some evo's again!!
I cant stretch to a 5 but have seen a few nice 4's on here.........
But i keep on getting told that the engines are weak, the brakes naff and the ayc poor???

Can someone plz help me?Servicing costs will be about the same as an M3, but just dont want it to be a money pit like my old cossie's!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance

the engines arent all weak. they can suffer from crankwalk, mine did so it got replaced with one from a 5. they arent as good for tuning so if you are looking to run lots of boost then get one with a newer engine, they are quite a few about with them.

AYC is weaker than the one in the 5- but if its looked after then theres no reason it should break. you could opt for an RS which doesnt have AYC.

brakes arent the greatest part of any evo. if you look after them and warm them up first before really hammering them they should last ok. you can upgrade to AP's etc which will cost circa £2K but you'll need 17" wheels to fit them under.

apart from that they are pretty much the same as a 5/6 just slightly narrower.

I am just looking for a nice 300 bhp car as it will be a daily driver and family car!!!
And what self respecting family car doesn't have 300hp? ;)

I agree with everything Wullie says, the IVs get knocked a bit but that's only because the improvements between the IV & V were quite significant, moreso that the usual intra-generation evolutions. Plough your own furrow, get a IV, you will enjoy it :)
