Hello.

I 'm considering buying an Evo 6 at the moment but I need to be able to tow a trailer from it occasionally. Has anyone already gone down this route?

I've spoken to my local Mitsibushi garage and they don't supply one and now need to speak to a specialist to see if they can help out. It may require a small part of the rear bumper to be cut away. http://www.lancerregister.com/graphics/embarassed1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

All advice/info/experience greatly appreciated. Thanks.

*cough cough*

Watling Engineering can prob fit one for you, simon7extreme should be able to give you the contact details.

You know you can tow much when the evo is going sideways don't you ;)

Spoke to the specialist today who thinks it should be possible also. Said new reg's came in 8/98 which tightened up rules on what towbars could be used and whether they could be mod'd. He also said that they did not apply to E marked imports. Are Ralliart cars considered imports aswell? (think so) Good news is that rear bodywork should not require cutting. :)

It would be helpful if there are any Glasgow area Evo owners here if they could take their car to my towbar specialist so he can check it over first - anyone out there? He won't rip your car apart - honest.

Would still be great to hear from anyone with a towbar BTW!

Ally

P.S. Sorry for the Voltaire name but it's a name not used too often so less hassle to register. Only took me 5 months to make my first post from first registering - some kinda weird record? LOL :D

Correct me if im wrong, but im nearly certain it says in the Owners manual not to be towing anything with an Evo.

I know there is a piccy in my Jap manual of an Evo towing a large lorry with a big cross through it :D I think it means just don't over do the towing ;)

Arrrggghh! Don't do it! Buy a second car and use that instead. What's next, family outings to Cornwall in an Evo with a caravan hanging off the back?

Where all going on a, Evo holiday...

Jon44W, I can't comment on what it says in the manual as I haven't read one as yet. Can anyone shed more light on this?

Anyway, it really would help matters if anyone knows someone already with a towbar could post the person's email to me. If they don't come to this BBS too often I can then contact them direct. Thanks.

Grog, I've really got no choice but to use whatever car I will be using as my daily driver, in this case the Evo 6, to tow. I've already got two other cars (Exige/'66 Mustang V8) and have no cash/room for any more. [:)] Anyway, it's for towing a lightweight trackcar to track days and using the Evo means I can take two cars on instead of one. It also means if it is peeing it down on the track day, I can just use the Evo.

See it makes sense in a kind of twisted way. [;)]

THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS WWW.TOW-BARS.CO.UK.
I THINK YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT PAYING AROUND £500 FOR IT. IF YOU REQUIRE ANY OTHER INFO THEN GIVE ME A SHOUT.

Yipee - success! :D

Thanks Mossy (and Ryan that mentioned Watlings earlier), and everyone else. Got Watlings tel no from their website and called to confirm the details. Supply the relevant parts for towbar for £200. Fitting cost still to be added obviously. FYI, they supplied towbars for seven Evo 6's last year.

Anyone wanna buy a breadvan? (BMW M Coupe)
