I have a technical question on how antilag works.

From my understanding, the whole purpose of ALS is to retard timing and add fuel off-throttle.

When you do this, the temperature of the turbo and exhaust system is increased, but how does this also increase the potential for knock and detonation in the engine? With ALS, doesn't detonation take place after top dead center, which negates the possibility of pre-detonation or "knock"?
