I`ve had a problem with my car since buying it privately at the beguinning of December.Basically it is suffering from an intermitent rotational knocking noise from the font of the car.

Now this was reported to my local dealers mid Dec, and since then it has been into their workshop 3 times in total.First time they stripped center diff, second time replaced front UJ on the prop, third they checked the brakes, and on my advice the front shocks and top mounts( after i spoke to a specialist who has done several cars that had the same problem.... yet surprisingly Mitsubishi have never heard of the top mounts and shocks causing problems).

Both themselves(My dealers) and Mitsubishi now believe its the gearbox thats the problem.

This time its been in exactly 4 weeks.I rang up today and they have now told me to ring back Friday :(.They removed and stripped the gearbox, replaced it and the noise is still there. They are now going to drop it out again and strip it for a second time.

As you can imagine i am getting pretty fed up and annoyed thats it taking so long. Now what are my rights reguarding a claim thats taking so long? Can i ask for a courtesy car? And is there a time limit on how long any one warranty claim can go on for??

Any advice appreciated!

Rich.

Did you not get it checked by a reputable mechanic that knows your car inside out, before you parted with your cash? You must surely know you have NO comeback with a car bought privately. Is it an official Ralliart car or a grey?

Does it knock when u turn right or left? I had a similar problem and they replaced the strut and amp; top mount then everything was fine. My car was at a ralliart approved dealer and they supplied me with a courtesy car FOC although I had to arrange insurance myself. (car was a bagashite though!)

Ignore Victor. There is always one who is smart after the event. Your post implies that you have a Mitsubishi warranty which must have given you confidence when buying the car. Unfortunately, a courtesy car is what it says, a courtesy. I would check with your warranty documentation but I doubt that it even mentions alternative transport. I do think, in light of the time and their inability to find what is wrong, the have a moral obligation to lend you a car, but I doubt they have a legal obligation.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Cheers Simon and Duffman.Just frustrating waiting for them to get their act together.Four weeks to drop a gearbox, strip and rebuild it??? wow!

Victor, obviously i know theres no come back when buying a car privately.Thats why i bought a totally standard Ralliart supplied car, with warranty remaining. The car was inspected by my m8 at the garage where he is a fully qualified, apprentice trained mechanic. We had it up on the ramps for around 40 minutes while he litrally checked the car over inch by inch, and i mean inch by inch!

The knocking noise was not present when i bought the car (obviously...doh) and started a couple of weeks later!

The knocking noise is as you state Duffman, when your turning.Mainly at slow speed such as turning in/out of the drive. As i put above i have been advised by probably the best Evo shop in the country that the problem is the Shocks and top mounts.Yet my dealer is claiming neither them nor Ralliart have ever come across such a thing before! Prehaps you could e-mail the name and number of your dealer so that i can pass their details onto mine?

My mail address is ...... [email protected]

Thanks guys, i`ll post a full report up once the stituation is resolved!

Ooops, forgot to say, the dealership said that they checked the struts and mounts for movement/wear and found nothing. Now if they are U/S is it something that can be felt or is it a case of replace and see what happens??

could it be worth asking the previous owner if he ever heard the noise, maybe the shear exitement of owning an evo6 shrouded the noise .im sure when i bought mine it was perfect but when uve owned it a liittle while u hear things u didnt hear b4,he might deny it anyway, but its just a thought!!!:)

Mine developed this problem 2 weeks atfer I got it too, spooky!
Not sure on your location but I had the strut and top mount changed without quibble on warranty by Gatwick Mitsubishi www.gatwick-group.co.uk 01293 429800 (ask for barry). BUT, I now get the car sorted by Brighton Mitsubishi (Black Night) 01273 388808 ask for Kevin.
All parts required for your car apparantly need authorisation from Mitsubishi before they can start any work, so it normally takes a week or two to get the go ahead.

Arent we a helpful bunch ay guys, good luck in getting it sorted.

From the first time hearing a slight noise to the point of hearing it everytime i drove the car was a matter of one week, it esccalated (spelling??) that quickly. If the noise had of been present while he had it then it would have done the same.

The car was up for sale quite a while so i`m pretty sure it was`nt just a case of its started making a noise so lets sell it ,besides, why sell a dodgy car and risk a come back (smashed windows, new car keyed whatever) when you could get a prospective fault fixed, and avoid having an unhappy buyer??

ive been having the same problem , so i took it to get serviced and checked , my mechanic reckons that the noise is from the strut . he disconnected the anti roll bar and the clunking noise was still there . he is tying to get one tommorow . any one know the best place to source one and how much they are to fix

Riche, I have experienced a similar problem,RC Developements went straight to it.

It was the heat shield on the fuel tank had worked loose and was hanging of,they removed it problem solved. They said it happens a lot!

Im not saying this is it in your case, as your noise comes from the front of the car and mine came from the back, but for people who have experienced unexplained noise's from the back, this piece of knowledge might help.

Cheers for the info :)

It was RC who advised me it was the struts and top mounts, after i`d told them that the diff bolts had been checked.I feel i must point out that they have`nt actually heard the car, but they were sure if it was`nt the diff bolts then it would be the struts.

Strange how you get the rotational noise though on a part that does`nt actually move in any kind of rotational direction eh?? ;)

Ringing dealers back on Friday to see whats happening.

Riddy, please mail me Re: Sunwin
