Acceleration vibration

196 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Foz88
Hi, I have a strange problem and hope someone has the answer.
Under hard acceleration I get a fairly harsh steering wheel vibration. During gentle acceleration virtually nothing.
Have had new tyres fitted and balancing multiple times. Wheels rotated front to rear, no difference.
I am now wondering if it is an inner CV joint failing?

Has anyone experienced this?

Maybe not the same.. In a VII I had a long time ago the passenger side wishbone bolt (goes into the passenger footwell area) was 1mm too small and slightly too short also. Caused me all sorts of problems and the vibration through the steering wheel was one of the symptoms.

Not saying this is your issue as I'd say mine was a pretty rare issue.

Have you checked bushings (in the rack also) ball joints etc?
Also, maybe check the joint at the end of the steering column where it connects to the rack?

Thanks for that Jim.
I have checked what you suggested, but found nothing loose or worn.
I have decided to try another pair of front driveshafts to see if it is a worn inner cv joint.
Thanks again for help(y)
