We've just (reluctantly) bought a new car and are pretending to be grown ups for a few years while we have small children and have bought an estate car!

The car looks 'okay' but we are hoping to do some minor modifications to it so it doesn't feel so sensible (lol) but since buying it cannot find much info about it at all.... can't seem to get alloy wheels from Halfords as its 'not on the list' can't seem to get a haynes manual, join a forum... blah blah blah... can anyone help?

The car is as follows:

Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLXi Estate - W Reg (2000)

Parkers Guide mention it but call it the "Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII Estate "

guess that's an import ?
the engine/running gear will be the same as the Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 hatch and Proton Persona 1.6 saloon & 3-door hatchback

best place for tuning/upgrade info would be on 'Colt & Proton' forums
& as above for a Haynes manual

No its not an import, it was a limited edition run (1,500) made in the UK in 2000/2001 (see spec here http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/car-specifications/Mitsubishi/Lancer+(2000-01)/MI000711/) - its not really our cup of tea as we've just moved from a BMW 325i SE (sorry, not sure if BMWs are the enemy or not on here!) so are used to a performance-ish type vehicle.... Its not til my OH crashed it that we thought about getting a more 'practical' car... We've tinted the windows (only got it yesterday AM) and have been trying to buy Lexus/Smoked light and as mentioned alloy wheels but are having no luck!

I'll try the other forum as suggested - cheers for that!

But....are you sure....?
as it was never an official import & Mitsubishi didn't manufacture cars in the UK in 2000/2001
+ that (saloon) body style was discontinued in the Lancer range in 1995...as all the tooling was sold to Proton

The only other places I've ever seen them is in Australia/new Zealand where they're called the 'Libero'

Hmmmm - okay so now I'm not so sure... :blush: I read it somewhere that there was a limited run of these cars, I asked the dealer if the car was an import and he say 'no' so spose i put 2 & 2 together and got 9?? I spose the dealer meant that it wasn't a recent import as it has been registered here since it was first born as it were but as with finding out any information about the car apart from that I'm at a complete loss and getting frustrated to boot... I found one forum for Colts but they are nothing like the car either

Have even tried looking at websites in Japan to get some lights for the car but all the pages are in Japanese! LOL!

I really appreciate your help xlr8 by the way - I know its a little off topic for these forums so thanks loads

when I suggested the Colt or Proton forums...it was more for performance
i.e. engine tweaks, rather than styling mods, as they are completely different bodyshell
- however, the complete front end from an e1-3 will fit
also...the interior of the e1-3 will fit straight in....

re: wheels
the 1800gsr 4x4 & evo1-3 will fit = 4x114.3 offset: 38-42

suggest you:
have a look in the registry(on tool bar above)
and view some e1-3 for 'inspiration'
&

Blimey your good!! Thats really really helpful info...!!! I just had halfords on the phone who said that they have even done some research and we cannot buy alloys from them as the car doesn't exist - hmmmm.....!! Its body styling that we are after for a quick visual fix to try & minimise the impact of having an estate car - the engine will come afterwards so its all one step at a time at the mo!!

Thanks for explaining all this to me so well, as you can see I'm a very new newbie to all this...... Maybe we should have started doing bits to a normal car before attempting this strange one!! I am currently looking at steering wheels on ebay and getting very confused.... Think I might have to buy this book - grin!! here

CCC did sell these estates through their dealer network for a couple of years. I think they were made in India, Brazil or somwhere like that.

Handy, as we can get quite a few bits (headlamps etc.) from dealers without having to hear the 'it'll have to be shipped from Japan, 8 weeks and £££' line

Yes.

As usual, the Halfords todger was speaking out of his bee-hind. The fitment for the car will be 100x4 or, more likely, 113.4x4 and the offset will be a common one. Any decent tyre/wheel place will be able to take one of your wheels off , measure it, tell you which fitments will match then try to sell you a set

guess now its a game of hunt the lights etc gonna pop down an alloy independant wheel specialist at the weekend so they can have a proper look and not just look in a book

I have managed to find the offset in the owners handbook for the car (46mm) but the guy in halfords said that didnt help when I gave it to him - am I getting the impression he just can't be bothered??

Have been looking nearly all day for ANYTHING (apart from wheels) to stick on the car but unless you want to buy or insure the thing the car just doesn't exist!!

Am really really confused as to how we are going to pull this one off as I have all paperwork since the car was new and it doesn't give me a clue as to whether the car could be called anything else... there are loads for sale at the moment but is it really possible that no-one has ever modified one???

from my post above.....wheels 'should' be: 114.3mm x 4stud = as for evo1-3
- would suggest going through previous adds for evo1-3 wheels in the 'parts for sale' section on here
....they'll fit without messing around or talking to sales people that don't have a clue

the pic below shows what can be done to a Libero estate

but you can see e.g. the evo front end which will fit straight on, that I mentioned above - in this case an e3+ sideskirts & rear bumper ears from the same
+ it's got 8x19inch wheels
lowered suspension etc
