BBC headline news today-
She apparently hit and killed a cyclist who went through a red light! Surely the cyclist (although dead) must take most of the blame anyway. Bit harsh dont you think?

who said anything about scaring them? I drive past them in the same way I would a courteous rider, slowly, quietly and smoothly...I just might be swearing under my breath.....;)
No helmet and he jumped the red light. It's his fault. His family should be ashamed of themselves.
cyclist

fact;the driver was paying no attention to the road
an accident which may well have been avoided.
if a driver killed one of my kids under those circumstances they would only face the grim reaper on release from jail.
and i would gladly do the time.
sentance 20 years too little imho.

Had the cyclist not run the red light, he would NOT have been hit regardless of weather the driver was texting or not. Unless of course the driver lost control of the car, swerved violently to the side and hit the cyclist while he was waiting at the junction. which seems a little unlikely.
my 5yo son and i were crossing over the road (duel carridge way) at a set of lights that were on green for us to cross,we got half way when some bell end came flying through the crossing missing us by a few inches and all while he was on the mobile.mind you i dont think a day goes past that i dont see a car go through the crossing while on red.we had one time that the lights were on red the cars stopped and me and the kids got half way across when one driver didnt want to wait anymore and put his foot down and drove around us.i even had it that one driver went through the lights on red while i was crossing with my 3 month old son in his pram and i shook my head at him and he decided to hit the brakes and with smoke pouring off his tyres comes to a stop passed the lights and then waved his hands at me to imply he wanted a fight,a few seconds later he decided to wheel spin off again.99% of the time its not boy racers or performance car ownes but office workers/ reps with the jacket hanging up in the back, the same ones who will sit an inch off your bumper on the motor way.

i guess she'll be out in two years for good behaviour, which, for what she did seems about right, im sure a lot of people here have texted whilst on the move?
Both are guilty, the darwin candidate for jumping red lights with no helmet and some bint who was texting while driving a car.

She killed someone where she was *partly* at fault = manslaughter = reasonable 4 year sentence (for manslaughter, could have been a lot worse) as the judge probably took into account the above. Out in 2-3 years.

Very reasonable sentence so I fail to see what all the whining is about?

Why should his family be ashamed:shake:
i dont agree with texting while driving then again i dont agree with jumping lights on bike or any other form of transport

it could have been different the cyclist jumps a red light a car swerves (thats not texting) and mounts the pavement or hits another car killing someone or people the cyclist should be charged for murder/manslaughter for causing the accident
had a green peace type cyclist on my bonnet of the van a couple of years ago,he was running a red light he was laid on the floor i got out he started mouthing at me ,i said to him if you didnt run the reds you wouldnt be on your arse you P£ICK got in the van drove off .i so hate cyclists .:wallbang:

I've had a cyclist ride towards me on MY side of the road (alongside the pavement) in the DARK!! P**k was waving & shouting abuse at me for nearly hitting him & he didn't have any lights on either! It's always the driver's fault! :goingmad: :wallbang:

Some motorcyclists are as bad. I was sat in the middle of the road indicating to turn right in my old works van. There was a break in the oncoming traffic so i pulled across the road. As i was turning right, a motorbike went slamming into the o/s wing. The moron was overtaking me!!!:eek::shake:
Luckily, there were witnesses who all said it was his fault & he even admitted it! Lucky for him only his bike was damaged, could so easily of ended up in a wheelchair.

In this case, both to blame. Moron for thinking it was ok to jump a red light on his bike, blonde for texting while driving. As has been said, it may have happened even if she hadn't have been texing :shake:

Hmm I hate most cyclists, not all, just the ones who feel all traffic laws do not apply, i.e. stopping at lights, zebra crossings, swerving madly, riding 2-3 a breast... My Dad was at a set of lights when a cyclist deciced to use his brand new van as a leaning post, my dad opened the window and asked him what he was doing, to which the cyclist replied "propping myself up" to which my dad told him that he didn't own the van he was "propping" on and to remove himself and rolled a bit forward so the twit nearly fell off.

Horses on the other hand I feel I should defend being an ex-horse rider. As Aidy said they use the road to go from bridleway to bridleway. As a horse rider I always try and say thankyou, but I used to have one horse who was scared of white vehicles, so trying to say thanks, whilst trying to control her could be difficult at times. Then main thing to remember is pass wide and slow, and if the rider directs you to stop, go past faster etc then do it, as they ultimately understand the horse they are riding. I always had a "Caution Young Horse" reflective on as my horse was only 5 and a little bit tempremental at times.

Rants over lol
