i would say defo a bad idea. unless of course you only drive in a straight line and are a rapper from compton LA:mhihi:

 

Yea there would be a reasonable stretch, I had 245s and wouldnt go much smaller without jeopardising the handling.

 

This is a 245/40/18 on a 9.5 rim, you can't quite see but the rim is not protected by the outer of the tyre, 235 will affect handling if it actually stays on

 

I thought 245 would be a minimum.

Will probably go 255 or 265

I've got 235 ado8 on my 9.5 grids but I've heard the ado8 is a wider tyre anyway

meh. See Ive got a set of perfectly good set RE050 sat in the garage. Could fit them, and save myself a few quid. Not sure what to do now.

Doesn't seem to affect the handling at all, used it at the sprints last year seemed ok :smthumbup

 

technically a strech,but some tyres are much wider than others although the size is the same.

advan ad08s for eg.and basically any tyre in the same category ..azenis,r888 etc

245s look best on these, and tend to fit without any rubbing on 789s

255s sit perfectly on 9.5" wheels, and normally need arch work unless you drive like a pansy or run monster truck suspension :lol:

 

i have 235/40/18 r888s on mine have done for years ,used on track only:smthumbup

last set slicks we put on my other wheels,were tight:lol: prob have to cut them off now:lol::lol:

I was hoping for a fit like above... i went with 245/40/18 Falken 452 on a 9" rim, and it looks stretched :-(

It's a pain in the backside that 'same' size tyres are actually different....

Would be handy to have a thread like Conrads 'conrod' thread, but on tyres, with actual widths etc ?

Still, a sticky with actual width v's claimed width would be handy for the tyres/wheel section, sure it wouldn't be hard if we all chipped in

I'd agree it all depends on the tyre. As I found after fitting some 255 R888's on 10" rims, I was expecting a small amount of stretch but if anything the tyres look too wide!

 

I just recieved my new rota 18x9.5 wheels with ad08 tyres in 235/40 and it's just. Tiny stretch so I'm happy with that

 

What ones did you go for? AD08s are a wide tyre so prob equivalent of 245s

 

Just bought some 255/35/18 Federal 595 RS-R after reading some positive reviews. Apparently similar to R888's, but we'll see

Got them for £470 delivered from mytyres. About £150-£200 cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

Hope they're not sh*te

225's on a 9.5 is still only a little stretch when you compare to some of the stretch's you see on 'stanced' vw's ect..

I run 225's on my GTR's and it's the perfect look IMO .. I've pushed it very hard and the tyres have stayed put.. Gives you extra clearence from the tyre touching the arch as they have a nice inward angle!

Each to there own but I would have no fear of doing a track day with mine
