So I've had a bit of a knock at the rear of the car and decided to check the top of the strut.

Once I'd got the carpet out of the way I discovered that my adjustor doesn't click like the other side, it just turns instead.

There is a beginning and an end to when it's easy to turn but is my adjustment broken and stuck in place or is it just the click mechanism that is likely to have gone?

The click mechanism can wear out with age too. As long as there is no knocks or leaking don't worry.
