Evo IV restoration

Hey everyone,

Haven't been on here in a while, still have the 6 as a track only car but this came up and couldn't say no.

To sum it up it's been stood for 9 years (dry storage) and it needs some major love. It has a 6 engine, running gear and brakes.

I'll update this thread as Photobucket has stopped all my photos.

Good to see another IV being saved rather than broken up.

Yeah it's a shame to see them all getting split for parts.

Will keep this as standard as possible, aesthetically modifications will just be the VI wheels and VI brakes.

Have a De-Cat to fit, couldn't believe it still had the standard cat on it!

You want to get in touch with member called Richard Wallace on here. His IV has all the 'best bits' of his favourite Evos fitted to it and will offer some advice I expect. My other friend Aaron (CrazyA64) also saved his IV from the dead several times and has modded it to suit. aaron also has a lot of standard parts like wheels he may let go if you ask I expect.

Looks like the hoses have seen better days on it so maybe do what I did to my VI and fit some MLR branded SFS hoses? Replacement parts should be easier to get for yours too as it is VI components. Interior looks good nick.

Cheers VI_Shooter, i'll be in touch with them when the project gets into full swing. I'll try and find some threads from them also

Your right about the hoses, engine bay will need some loving and all req parts replacing once the rear end is sorted.

Interior is good, and considering it hasn't been cleaned in 9 years hopefully after a proper day clean it'll look even better.

Going to get the wire wheel on the car tomorrow, hopefully get the back end down to metal.

Anyone have any advice on what to do with it in regards to paint? I've only under-sealed a car before not stripped it right back.

I'm thinking
  • Strip back to metal
  • Rust converter
  • Red oxide primer?
  • White Shutz?

Rust patches have been welded on the car, took larger plates than i had visioned but it's all good now.

Have some Upol Bedliner for underseal, once its rust converted and primered. Bedliner is in the same colour as car so should look lovely when done.

Just have to order some bushes for the rear end that look perished. Get busy with a wire wool grinder head and she will be back on all 4's

Small update:

Been going over the back end with some wire wool brushes on a grinder, unfortunately it's unearthed a bit more rust.

Car will have to wait for a few weeks which is unfortunate but hopefully it'll be done by the summer.
