04 EVO8 MR-FQ340 sticky 6th

Hi All,

As the title suggests, I've a small Gearbox issue.

I am a returning member from. . er. . years back. I have had to re-join with a new name, but it is still me I have owned the same EVO from new in 2004, and it is simply a car that I can't sell, as nearly 16 years and 99,000 miles together I still smile when seeing off M3s who check the reg and think they have a chance

A number of months back I missed 3rd under moderate acceleration and crunched the change. Since then the box has to be coaxed into 6th, and once "In" needs to be coaxed back into lower gears. I live with it, but it is something I would love fixed.

Does anyone have any recomendation for someone who can give me a reliable (EVO quality) transmission overhaul somewhere locally to Basingstoke?

Any help and advice is welcomed, and I appoilogise if this question has been asked before.

Keep EVOiing all.

Nick
July 2004: Gunmetal EVO8 MR-FQ340: Totally unmodified and completely standard.

If you can get the gearbox out, my advice would be to send it to Clive, his on here. Rebuild my 5 speed. Now perfect!

Clive is a top guy and great Engineer. When I last talked to him, he said he did not rebuild 6 speeds. From what I have read on here most people change to a 5 speed. If that is the route you end up going then you should talk to Clive about an RS 5 speed with a 4.11 final drive. It transforms the car to another level.

Thumbs up Thank you for all your help guys.

Thank you to all above who have helped me with my problem with 6th.

I have made contact with Clive and as soon as I can take the vehicle off the road for a while he knows there is a job lined up for him.

Today's EVo task (whislt otherwise locked down) was swapping out the front wheel bearing flanges. Easier that I expected, but those bolts hadn't been turned for 16 years, so were wonderfully tight. . . a 32mm 1/2" socket, a borrowed breaker bar and another borrowed length of scafolding pole eventually got things moving. . . What could be easier??

Thabnks again all.

To wizzzbang: Thank you for the pointers, but even after 16 years (of sole ownership) the car is absolutely standard as the day it came new to me from Mitsubishi. I haven't uprated anything which should make it a sought after car when I come to sell-it one day as nothing has been stressed more than the design spec. We'll find out if that is true the day I come to move it on.
