Work log - Kenneth's EVO VI TME

Hi guys,

So first, my name is Kenneth. I'm from Norway, and I've just bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI (6,5) Tommi Mäkinen Edition in Satellite Silver with decals.

My first thread on this forum was about what kind of car do I actually got. And I'm still not sure if it's a RS2 TME, but it is for sure an TME. You can read about that here.

I will use this thread for Q&A, work log, inspiration, etc.

/Kenneth

What did I do to my Evo today?
It had it's first proper 2BM after I bought it!

So as you guys will notice after some time is that I'm one of those guys who calls themselves a 'detailer'. If you want some tips or are just curious, don't hesitate to ask.

Started off with a picture that's totally out of WB.

Brake dust and rainwater.

Surfex HD 1:5 working.

After letting the Surfex work for a while I foamed the whole car with Nerta Active Diamond and Bilthamber Snow Foam.

While the foam worked for 5-10 minutes I continued on the wheels.

After rinsing the whole car I sprayed it with Iron X. Didn't find to much actually.

Washing the car with a Golden Nugget and two similar buckets (ref. 2BM). One filled with pure water, and one with soap. As I planned to 'kill' all the protection on the car I used CG Citrus Wash. Both buckets got a double layer of grit guards.

Pressure washed the car, then rinsed it with cold water before driving it back inside and dried it with a MF drying towel from GYEON.

All the door sills got washed, rinsed and dried as well.

Thought you maybe wanted to see some more from the interior. I've ordered Ralliart floor mats + boot mat, but since it's a LHD evoshop didn't have it on stock. And a Ralliart gear knob in black (rep. I assume).

There are some defect I'll try to fix, so I measured the thickness of the paint, and I gotta say - this car is absolutely dent-free and have never been resprayed as far as I can see after reading the values. Just wow!

And the final shot before I left her for the night.

Nice job you’ve done there Kenneth, that’s a great looking Evo you have... By the way it’s nice to see someone else with an Evo and a Mercedes

As far as I know, LHD Evo 6s were only produced either as "RS2" (which is what they call "GSR" oversea), or "RS". I have personally never seen an original LHD Evo 6 TME RS.

Aha, makes sense. Well, mine is a Evo 6 (,5) RS2 TME.

When I got the car it didn't have any stereo, so I bought a simple 1-DIN Pioneer that supports bluetooth, USB and AUX. Does the job, and has 210.000 different colors so that I can match the original ones - and I did, with a color between "red" and "amber".

Came out like this, and I don't think it came out too bad actually:

Tomorrow I'll start on those minor defects in the paintwork as it will be displayed on a car meet the upcoming weekend.

/Kenneth.

Nice think thats the same stereo as I have - I have it amber/red at night and then a green colour which matches the clock and climate control during the day

I’m considering matching the display in the same colour that the clock and climate control my self. I haven’t been using the car since I put it in.

I can see in your signature that I have to check out your Mak!

So I had some time tonight too work on some defects in the paint.
Remember this?

The RUPES mini was ready for some spot detailing and I combined blue RUPES (rubbing) with the yellow RUPES pad and gave it a shot.

Came out pretty good, but not 100% as the deepest scratches were through the paint, unfortunately.

And while I was at it in the rear section of the car, I discovered some pretty swirly rear lamps.

And then I've seen som rather deep scratches on the decals that concerned me a bit, but I decided to give it a try. Veeeery carefully.

Did the tires as well before calling it off. Or my daughter, through the babyball called it off.

Who said silver can't be shiny?

It works quite good when the decals are good quality. You can never use any kind of machine on decals that the colour are printed on - it will only turn into the basecolour of the decal as you remove the colour.
