Good news, some progress The relay has permanent 12V to its coil and other end of the coil is "pulled" to ground by the ECU.

There are two fuses, one for the compresser feed (one of those in main fuse box in engine bay, #4 10A) and another for the relay (multipurpose #5 - they are the bank of plug in fuses in the J/B fuse box under dash). (hope I've read those correctly !)

Thanks for the drawing I've got someone checking ECU settings for me so hopefully they will.be able to re configure something but will check voltage at relay once I get home.

I remember it was tricky to find the right ECU drive pin because I found different info in various documents and the ECU manual was also incorrect.

However the wiring diagram above shows pin 8 correctly (on EVO7 at least):

(looking into ECU, ie wire side of connectors)

Thanks for the info, the map on the syvecs has been checked and the ac switch as not been assigned so hoping it's just a simple.job of setting this up.
