Fuel in France

Hi team.

All things being equal I'm hoping to relocate and buy a house in France this year, Lyon to be exact. I plan to take the EVO with me and basically keep it for life, unless somebody offers me a fortune in 20 years time (if it hasn't fallen apart).

I'm looking at fuels that are available in the area, there is potentially something called SP98, but it appears to contain ethanol, not sure if that's ok for long term use? I'm starting to wonder if it might be better to have the car mapped on 95 RON before I go, to simplify things. All input appreciated, especially from anyone with experience.

These are the others:

The four most common types of motor vehicle fuel (carburant) in France are:

SP95/E10: Mixture of 95-octane gasoline/petrol (90%) with ethanol (10%)

E85 (Super Ethanol): A mixture of ethanol (70% to 85%) and gasoline/petrol (essence) (15% to 30%, depending on the season). This fuel may not be suitable for most gasoline/petrol-powered cars.

Gasole (Gasoil): Euro-diesel ('clean diesel') fuel

GPL: Liquefied Propane Gas

Don't worry sp98 is petrol I have lived in France for 2 years and run a IX fq 360 on it with no trouble.
E85 is ethanol don't put that in your Evo lol.
The only problem you will have is importing it into France.
But I could help you if needs be but not on a public forum.

Thanks, Yes I've been looking at this, the paperwork and hoops to jump through are going to be excruciating, but it will be worth it. I'll be fairly close to the Alsp and the Stelvio Pass so there ain't no way she's staying at home.

Yes I know Macron is seriously on the case with that, surely though it's only production of new petrol cars, they won't be able to outlaw existing cars already on the road?

That's just fine by me.

As per my life here, I will have a daily beater for commuting and shopping runs, and the evo will come out for pleasure driving only.

Edit - btw I can think of few places worse for driving than Paris

I live in Spain for most the year, I’ve looked in to taking mine out. But the amount of red tape in changing over is just stupid. Not sure the rules in France but any modding on a car is frowned upon and will fail an MOT. Plus every year they decide they don’t like something, on a car like an Evo which they don’t know at all I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. I actually have a shell station down the road from me too. Good luck

Higher octane fuel (98) is absolutely fine over here...

Good luck with the move when it happens....you'll have to come up with the Evo sometime for some amazing driving in the Black Forest (and in Switzerland too)
