This is all with factory turbos that is, obviously it's easier with ball bearing turbos.

Flowing the factory exhaust manifold in the right way can help a little too.
Fair enough. He didn't mention cams, so I assumed they were std. Std cams have low duration anyway (below 260 if I remember correctl), or thereabout.

I still find strange how he gets peak torque 400rpm earlier than many of us with similar engine. I'm interested in engine response and low-rpm torque, that's why I'm interested.

Below is dyno plot (power in bhp on the left, torque in Nm on the right). Engine 100% stock, except K&N panel filter.

Peak torque 4350rpm. Car is an Evo 6 TME with GSR turbo. Test was done in 4th gear.

I did map a e9 for a friend that seemed really late to boost.. in the end it was the wastegate flapper that was to blame.. it had just the smallest bend in it and that was enough... we swapped turbos and problem solved..

I have a dyno plot of my red tme and the black tme with the mods as listed. The red tme is standard and how it came in from Japan, I got it on the rollers mainly to check fuelling etc.

Ah thanks a lot for the graphs! Goes to show I was right! You don't really get peak torque before 4000rpm on factory 6s, yours is another example. But hell, your car spools early with the mods!

Your turbo is probably a little tired also, when I replaced mine I was shocked at how tired it was despite looking still fairly good.

Have probably posted this somewhere in this thread already, but anyway..

Spec at the time was: new Evo VI RS turbo
J-Speed Turbo Dump (twin pipe) + 3" Front pipe
EXAS Evo tune 80mm stainless cat back and muffler
BLITZ EBC running 1.5 Bar boost
TOMEI Poncam 260 Camshafts
HKS Adjustable Cam Gears
HKS SuperFire Racing plugs (9 heat range)
HPI Pod Air Filterin airbox.

Rest standard. Engine had something like 70,000 klms on it IIRC.

If running a more standard exhaust and cams the power would come on way sooner, but of course there'd be a lot less of it.
We could have got the power in a fraction earlier but I was more than happy with this so we left it.

Later on when I added Okada Plasma direct coils it was even stronger.

Do you have a graph when you added the coils?

I think so too. Looks tired even from the outside! But thanks guys for the inputs! Nice to see some graphs.

No unfortunately I never got around to it, but the difference was clear. I was actually surprised because Mitsubishi electrics are good (much better than other JDM) and the coils I replaced were only maybe 20000 klms old, and while I expected an improvement, I wasn't expecting one that I could feel.
